Eddie Johnson is down in the dumps. He's been in a hobby club for three years, wanted to be elected treasurer, and isn't even nominated. He complains to his dad, who walks him through various small ways in which someone shows his or her trustworthiness in order to be trusted with big things. Dad talks about keeping trust at home, at school, with friends and with groups. Eddie starts to catch on, realizing that his friend Bob was elected club treasurer after showing his trustworthiness in many small ways. So Eddie resolves to play fair, keep his work, do a good job, and be on time. Soon new responsibilities come his way.

Am I Trustworthy? (1950)

** (out of 4)

Educational film from Coronet about a young boy who hopes to be elected to treasurer of his school but when he doesn't get a single vote he goes home to his father asking if there's something he did wrong. His father then sits him down and explains that in order to be trusted with big things you must first prove that you can be trusted with small things. Ahh, so touching. Naturally, if you're going to be watching one of these educational pictures then you know not to expect any sort of high art. These type of movies can go one or two ways. One is that it's pretty straight and simple and nothing more. The second way is that it's so stupid and silly that you can't help but make fun of it. This one here is pretty straight and simple as there's really nothing overly bad or silly to make you laugh at it. At just 10-minutes the film is entertaining enough for one viewing even if you'll be gagging at how silly the entire message is. Of course we get spoken narration over the action, which is a very cheap thing but it's something that most of these movies had.
