The TV reporter in the opening scene is Portland newscaster Sophie Soong.

At the beginning of the episode, Jake excitedly tells the Librarians that the chupacabra (a legendary cryptid animal) is making beef jerky. At the end of the episode, the Librarians can be seen eating the jerky while they recover.

At 16:22 Ezekiel spins Munchausen's Top. Baron von Munchausen was an 18tth century German officer known for bragging about his life experiences. The top looks like a Hanukkah dreidel.

Then town of Hawthorne, NH pictured in the beginning with 2 political billboards (that don't really exist) is of Littleton, NH. The Jax, Jr. Cinema is visible.

Director Jonathan Frakes and John de Lancie were both cast members of Star Trek TNG.

Sesselman makes a reference to Jenkins being "incorruptible". This is in reference to his true identity of Galahad, known as the purest of all Arthur's knights, and therefore the only one able to find the Holy Grail.

After Brandy drops from the deamon hole, Eve brings coffee to Denning. The blue and white paper cups are the iconic Anthora, designed in 1963 for New York's Greek coffee shops. Before Starbucks, these cups (now made by Solo Cup Co.) were the definitive NYC coffee-to-go container.

In the deals-with-devils talk, Stone mentions Robert Johnson. Johnson was a phenomenally talented Delta Blues singer, songwriter, musician who became a major musical influence before dying at age 27. He was so good so young that after his death folks suggested he had made a deal with the devil.

The plot involves a devil-like character threatening to destroy a town with an explosion and fire (first a gas leak, then a plane crash). Two episodes prior to this, the Wexler cheerleading squad was heard cheering "Appareat Diabolus Ignis", which could be translated into "The devil appears (with) fire."

John de Lancie's character is an all powerful being who is turned into a human. de Lancie's iconic character, Q, suffered a similar fate in the Star Trek TNG episode "Deja Q".
