Originally called and to be produced under the title "The Lake" with the story set at Lake Tahoe in Nevada. The title was changed among other things when the filming location was moved to Biloxi, Mississipppi.

The scene showing the foot of a woman with a shark fin tattoo was not in the script. While still filming in Lake Tahoe, an extra involved pointed out her real-life tattoo to the cinematographers. They grabbed a shot of it, which ended up in the final cut of the film.

Feature film debut for commercial director Jerry Dugan.

As a kid from the 80's growing up in Lundgren's prime, I still find the man massive on the screen, especially when he's not doing a movie that evolves other action heroes, which I have not seen him do in a while.

The big man plays a convicted wild life trafficker trying to make contact with his daughter who's being protected by a small town sheriff who took her in after he went to jail. Now it seems only Lundgren can stop a shark infestation happening on the lake they all live on. I make it sound more action packed than it really is.

It's the most original antagonist Lundgren has ever faced. It's too bad the special effects on his antagonist was so crappy or they could have really had something good here.

It tries to be Jaws but nothing can top that. It rips of Piranha 3D, but at least those movies are not trying to be something they are not.

Although Shark Lake did have it's fun moments, like a Steve Irwin type who hunts down fish for the BBC, it's funny for all the wrong reasons.

With that said, It does have a, so bad it's good, quality to it, and is worth watching just to smile at how horrible it is.

It amazes me that Jaws was made 40 years ago and its still the best shark movie ever made, even though effects have come a long way since then. While Jaws did everything right, this movie did everything wrong. With Dolph Lungren in this movie, I thought at least the special effects would be good. They are atrocious! The attacks are atrocious! The suspense is atrocious! And the acting is a bore! If I could have given a zero, I would. Totally forgettable.

One of the worst scenes was a shark barreling into the boat and the effect of water pouring in was laughable. Why did I waste 90 minutes of my life for this. Learn from my mistake and don't do the same.

My quick rating - 3,5/10. Really bad. I do appreciate the CGI swimmers against a underwater backdrop that has to be public domain video at this point. The movie is laughable to that level and the only shimmering glimpse of hope is the story? Did I really just say that? If you take away the stupid supposed horror element of normal sized bull sharks hanging out in a lake you actually have a somewhat interesting idea. The romance involves the dealer that sells exotic animals and something he lets lose in the water happens to have babies and is a shark. OK, dumb there, but when it is revealed for other purpose just seemed like the story warped two together since he did so to get back with his ex. OK, sounds dumb, but I saw a glimmer of hope, didn't say it was great. Either way, avoid this movie but maybe Jerry Duggan has something up his sleeve(if he hangs onto his screenplay writer) for something better.

Shark Lake is a B grade flick without the bite found in mainstream films like Jaws.

This film relies too much on munch-able eye candy in the form of scantily clad men and women, where a proper storyline, lots of action and accompanying quality creature effects, would have taken it so much further.

The acting ranges from average through to awful. This film would have been much better, for example, without the fake English shark hunter. A clichéd characterization that would make any real Brit wince.

So is there any basis on which on recommend Shark Lake? Well, its not utterly dreadful but its action scenes are so watered down (pardon the pun), that what should have been the driving force, in a film of this kind, is mostly absent. Three out of ten from me.

When he was in his heyday in the mid to late 1980s, with a Bond and a Rocky smash behind him, it must have seemed to Lundgren that he would wind up in the 'Stallone/Schwarzenegger' bracket with strings of mega smash box office hits and multi million dollar contracts. Sadly for him, it didn't quite pan out that way with a stream of dreadful B movies coming his way instead from studios desperate to get a smash on their hands. If I were him I'd be looking to dish out a Drago style beating to my handlers for landing me a load of crappy roles in films with 'The XXXXX' in the title... A plus for him is that he isn't the worse performer in this pile of doo doo, which must be the dreadful female lead. The film is surprisingly good fun with all the silliness, cheese, and dreadful acting and ludicrous scripting you'd expect. The cinematography is also worth a mention, some of the nature shots are quite stunning. Harmless inoffensive twaddle at best.

It's not the worst movie ever made, but it may feature the worst CGI ever. At least movies like Sharknado don't take themselves seriously, and for that reason, they succeed in being entertaining at least.

Shark Lakes budget clearly went into paying Dolph Lundgren and while he's not exactly known for his acting abilities, this is probably the worst movie he has ever appeared in.

This movie has no humor, no likable characters and when you see the shark you will most likely want to turn off like I did. There is no reason to watch this movie, ever!

Do yourself a solid and just watch Jaws again if your looking for your shark fix!

Man I can not believe in 2015 those CGIs are still allowed to appear on screen. I do understand that sometimes you're on a tight budget, but come one, if you going to make a movie about a shark, well...these guys right here couldn't even make a decent flipper. I mean seriously, even that is pc made, which makes this movie, quite a joke.

There is a plot to it, there is an well known actor but not the star of the movie, and a quarter of execution here, as well as all the boredom you can imagine. It wanted to be a shark movie, and it failed by all means possible, and the shark... it was bad.

I mean, I'm going to recommend you Shark Night 3d, or Bait, both cheesy movies that are so bad they're fun, and of course, little baby Jaws compared to Shark Lake.

Cheers!

In movies, we've seen Sharks deep underwater, we've seen sharks on beaches, we've even seen sharks in a God damn tornado not once, but 4 times. And now, we have Sharks in a lake? Shark Lake is a Dolph Lundgren B movie that fails in every single way you can possibly imagine. Now, where to begin? Firstly, the film is really dumb and cringe worthy, and not in a fun way. For example, this character called Peter is introduced to us as a guy with a PhD... Yet he has to ask the lead is they are a cop when they are IN UNIFORM WITH A PATCH ON HER SHOLUDER SAYING "SHERRIFF DEPT". That is just one of the many straight up idiotic moments in this terrible movie.

This film is unintentionally funny in everything it attempts. Whether its is the sheer patheticness of the old lady at the first attack, or the jet ski collision from outta nowhere, or every moment the shark is on screen. There is one shot I found hilarious where the camera has a birds eye view of the water as if to show how big the killer shark is.... And then this tiny little shark silhouette appears under the water. My god this film is funny for all the wrong reasons.

Being a B movie, the film isn't going to have a lot of money to work with, and you really feel it in this film. The sound is poor as well as the lighting at times. Some scenes are too dark and the police lights at the start of the film are so intense, they could possibly trigger an epileptic fit. But I'm not a doctor so don't take my word on that. The film also doesn't contain Dolph Lundgren much at all. It's not that its a bad thing, it's just that the films lead just doesn't do anything in this film and is almost misleading if you think you are going to get 90 minutes of Dolph vs Shark because you get about 2 minutes probably. But wait there's more, the script is also bad. The characters aren't likable, for example the real lead in this film, Hernandez, is a terrible cop and a finger pointer when it comes to blame (well only to Dolph Lundgren).

Speacking of a terrible script, Dolph 's story with the mob boss guy gets completely forgotten about. The guy more or less comes in and says "get my shark or my money or I kill you daughter" and the next time you see him is in the back of some car ( A police car? I don't know the framing didn't reveal that) and Dolph makes a comment and boom its all happily ever after... It's like the writers literally forgot about this part of the story and so squeezed it into the ending. Like seriously?

Overall, Shark Lake is a unintentionally hilarious Dolph Lundgren B movie. The film is of the quality you would expect of B, C, D all the way through to Z movies. One thing still bugs me about this film... What is the third thing that all living things do? Like, Peter with the Phd says there are 3 things... And then only lists 2 things... So what's the third thing? Anyway this film is not good and I don't know what the point was with it. Porr Dolph is left swimming with the fishes with this one.

I watched the trailer alone. Now right off the bat, its not working for me and this is just on the trailer. Anyone who has visited or lives in Lake Tahoe will know.

I'm shocked whoever produced this movie didn't know the facts first before even trying to film this movie.

1) You can't swim in Lake Tahoe in a bathing suit - the water temps are 59 degrees and lower. You start freezing to death after a few minutes.

2) Lake Tahoe is a fresh water lake. I didn't know there were such things as fresh water sharks. Sharks are salt water...

I could go on, but won't. You get the idea.

You have to appreciate Dolph Lundgren's tenacity to make movies, he churns out robust quantity of them in last year alone. Unfortunately, in Shark Lake he seems like just a famous name slapped into the title and poster, while being almost completely isolated from the main plot. The movie itself is appealingly bad, this is the level of sloppy presentation equal to random death scene in telenovela with silly fake shark fin, which admittedly surprising to see outside cartoon.

It all goes down in a formulaic monster movie plot, if you haven't predicted it already, there's a lake and shark on it. Cue the montage of silly party girls, stupid death scenes, incompetent authority figure, but wait, it has Dolph Lundgren. However, he's more of a subplot, separated from the rest. It's almost like an average action portion glued to a monster movie.

This is pretty disappointing since the best spark the movie has is the simple family drama. No one would form connection to plastic shark, but audience may relate to Dolph Lundgren as the ex-con trying to bond with her estranged little daughter. It is the closest to sincerity on this movie, yet it occurs too little too late.

Concerning the actual threat, it's undeniably horrible. The visual is incredibly bad, using cheap editing, poor animation effect and actual fake shark fin. The corpse of mechanical Jaws rolls on its watery grave. One can even see the drop in quality when transitioning from day to night. It looks so fake that it would've worked as parody, yet the movie insists on the gritty dark look, it's a bit sad really.

Shark Lake is, by no intention of itself, a parody of Jaws. The brief appearance from Dolph Lundgren can't save it and merely serves as timid advertisement.

Wow. People have shredded this movie - from the actors, to the script, to the sharks. The only truly valid point is the sharks. I suppose not that big enough of a budget to get some really great effects - but we still are able to get the visual point. And, really, it's a B movie people. Other than the sharks, the rest was enjoyable. Plenty of good ol' roll your eyes moments, but then a few quality honest to goodness surprising happenings as well. I thought the acting was fine, only once or twice was I tossed from being engrossed in the movie. I think mostly when the reality tv guy was there. Of course the setting was beautiful. Lots more I could say, but it would get into the land of spoilers.... Bottom line - if you love shark movies, are running out of them lol, this is your next top choice. It's all downhill from here.

Ok this was soo stupid. Dolph Lundgren has maybe 15 lines and he mumbles all of them. The main actress was annoying and the police chief was terrible. The grandma's acting is soo bad. The CGI is beyond awful. This isn't even so bad it's good it's just plain horrible. I could go on but I don't want to waste anymore time on this film than I already did. Do not watch this!

Like my title says, even when some divers are underwater swimming, you can clearly see how fake this is.. I mean, people who make movies should know about motion tracking??? Also the movement of the sharks was very unnatural. I think the CG was better in jaws II, and yes, i am dead serious.

The fakeness of the CG in this movie made it unwatchable for me. i can not tell a lot about the story, because i really could not waste more time on this pile of crap.

A mind-shattering masterpiece, assuming you have a mind to shatter.

Dolph.

What more needs to be said? 5 more lines? OK!

Take Ghostbusters, remove the ghosts and the buses, add in a dash of Apocalypse Now and Total Recall, then remove the jungles and mars, and you get Twister. But add Twister to Deep Blue Sea and you get Sharknado. I'm not even joking there, that was a real thing they made like 6 of them.

Anyway, this move has sharks and Dolph, maybe nimature golf. I don't know.

Swimmers and land-lovers begin to become part of the food chain In a quiet town on Lake Tahoe.

After Legendary (2013) Dolph Lundgren returns to another creature features themed film in this slightly better than a Syfy feature thanks to some murky CGI. Lundgren with limited screen time plays a black-market exotic species dealer named Clint, I kid you not.

With a setting reminiscent of Lake Placid, there's plenty of fake blood, CGI and attacks in two feet of water. It warms up slightly in the last twenty minutes and as the water gets deeper, but don't go expecting Jaws or The Reef, as Dolph and company thump their way to survival. It's played straight and the actors do there best, notable is the young actress Lily Brooks O'Briant and Sara Malakul Lane as cop Meredith Hendricks.

To director Jerry Dugan's credit the fantastic location gives it some atmosphere and the night-time scenes hide much of the production's low budge short comings. With an air of seriousness it's better than the endless amount of CGI shark versus... fill in the blank, or spoofs doing the rounds. Its not good or memorable enough to achieve cult status, a lot of effort has gone into this but it's probably no coincidence they're hunting a Bullshark.

I came in with very low expectations and they were just about met. I was just browsing Netflix and thought I would give this a try. The reviews didn't seem good and the plot didn't seem all that great. Not the worst movie I have watched, but it was definitely up there. The story just didn't make any sense. Somehow Dolph Lundgren had a bull shark in the back of his van. At least I am assuming that is how the shark got in the lake. I don't understand how the shark was in the back of the van with no water and it seemed to be sitting there for a while. Then the first guy that was killed was killed in an inch of water. The water didn't even go up to the guy's heel and somehow the shark killed him. Basically all the shark kills, besides the BBC guy and his cameraman were in water that was way to shallow for that big of a shark to be in. Also, somehow three sharks went undetected for five years in this lake. I think they said it was like a 20,000 square lake or something, but still you would expect at least one person to be attacked by one of three sharks in 5 years. I did not like the actress. I did not think she did that good of a job. I thought the doctor might have been the best in this so I was pretty sad when he died especially because the lady detective had a gun and for some reason didn't shoot the shark that went after him. Dolph Lundgren was pretty good, the sheriff was good and the BBC guy was good for the short time he was there. I also don't understand how they caught the crime boss. They never showed him being caught so I have no clue why he was arrested. The only thing that would have made this worse is if at the end of the movie they showed another shark in the lake teasing a sequel. I totally thought that was going to be the ending. Also, does a lake like this exist in Nevada? This totally looks like an ocean and not a lake.

Panic spreads in a small town when a killer shark begins to attack natives and tourists. Now the authorities and a few local fisher mans must try to stop the beast from making any more victims.

This one can be categorized among a list of the worst movies from 2015. It fits perfectly. There is not too much shark action and when is, it's with low quality and unwatchable.

Dolph Lundgren's appearance is wasted, here he is like making more of his presence rather then play a part. I don't get why he even bother to appear. So in conclusion you will not see to much sharks in this one, like the title suggests, but these are the expectations from a bad movie. Skip it if you are sick with the same steps and clichés already seen in other movies and choose a better one following this idea but better made and with more action and actors who give their interest so the outcome is more pleasant for the viewer.

i like the idea of Getting Action star in dark thriller shark movie Starting (Dolph Lundgren) as Clint a black-market exotic species dealer who got in jail for 5 years. Clint had a daughter (Lily Brooks O'Briant) Carly Gray also taken care form police offer who became mother Meredith Hernandez (as Sara Lane) (Sara Malakul Lane) a biologist named Peter, begin to investigate these brutal attacks and discover that they're not just hunting one eating machine, but a whole family of them. After a documentary crew is devoured when they don't take the threat seriously, it's up to Meredith, Peter (Michael Aaron Milligan), and the unlikely hero, Clint, to stop the most dangerous thing on the planet. that's all plot felt like director wanted to do movie like jaws and mixed with shark night together these special effects and CGI looked so bad in film. it didn't look like it's been finished the movie is far to funny the shark's don't look so real at all the acting is OK Dolph Lundgren is Decent but rest of cast is like i don't care for Dolph Lundgren doesn't do anything in this movie he is only for every 1 hour doing noting at all it's more of Meredith character and daughter she toke, what in name it's a Dolph movie i mean it looks so excited to see movie with Dolph killing sharks movie doesn't really follow it where it should be ! very low budget what sharks really look like it's very bad special effects on sharks looked so fake. the action scenes only Dolph did is kick these 2 guys in butt and broke 1 guy in arm there's is not much action scenes or him killing sharks when he is water in awful scene him kicking it in face makes it stupid 1 boring action scene, there is not much to say about this movie because this is only thing i am going to write is this could have been better movie director had a good idea but movie is boring most unforgettable movie

DOLPH is great! I loved this film, I'm a sucker for suspense and action and there's a good bit of both. nothing overblown or fast and furious, really well done. Some unforgettable scenery, a couple of twists and Dolph punches, I'd recommend just based on scenery and cinematography for sure. Obviously it makes you think of Jaws but this film is different, relevant IN a way that inspires fear today. I'm not saying Jaws won't make you scared but IT's antiquated, predictable, this film has just enough going on that you've gotta pay attention. Shark Lake and made a connect with the characters that you don't always see, it was refreshing to see a strong female roll (as always) You know what Dolph is going to do but the rest of the cast holds their own, LEE.

I really like Dolph Lundgren as an action movie star. This movie was terribly written & could've been way better. The girl sheriff deputy/police woman part was terribly horribly written more than anything else. I could easily explain and describe what was terribly horribly written in her part which is almost all of it but I don't want to put in any spoilers in this review. It's funny that in a couple few years Dolph Lundgren plays in SharkNado 5 though.

I thought this one might be pretty good as it was not brought to us by the SyFy station home to all things shark. It had Dolph Lundgren in it, so I thought, Dolph versus sharks, that may be pretty cool! It is not, not at all. It is a boring and stupid film filled with idiotic subplots and an annoying main character who isn't Dolph! The sharks also look incredibly bad, I once watched a shark film that was on SyFy called "Five Headed Shark Attack" and the shark in that one looked more real than the bull shark in this one!

The story has a guy who finds rare animals and is trying to deliver something in his van while these two officers are chasing him. The female is a horrible cop who shots Dolph who is unarmed as he is trying to get out of a lake. You can't get down while your in the water! She then takes his child and raises it as her own and when he gets out she refuses to let him see it. I would say that is a major conflict of interests, but this is a cheap movie. So when we are not doing the Lifetime channel movie thing, there are sharks in the lake and they are just little bitty sharks, nothing special about them and they have everyone flipping out. Just stay out of the water for crying out loud! Of course, there just happens to be a shark expert in town, what are the odds?

So this one is pretty bad, the sharks look like crap, the shark attacks look like crap and there are a lot of head scratching moments. They blame bears at first and still seem dubious of sharks being the culprits even when a woman's leg is bitten off right in front of everyone. The whole mafia type guys going after Dolph was just filler and in the end I was left disappointed that the female deputy was not eaten!

Not a good film by any means. The plot had potential, but having regular sized sharks in a lake was just not frightening. We are also supposed to believe that the sharks have been in the lake for five years and just start going crazy eating people just as Dolph's character gets out of prison. I almost want to say leave the bad shark movies to SyFy because theirs are at least more entertaining than this, but then they did make the super horrible Planet of Sharks too...
Xisyaco

Xisyaco

It's not as bad as some, I've sat through some horrifically bad shark films, films where you really hope the plastic shark runs amok eating everyone and everything in sight. This film doesn't quite fall into that bracket, as it's semi watchable nonsense. The idea is quite intriguing, but after a rather decent start it begins to fall apart a little. The special effects are really bad, any hint of threat is removed by the poor special effects, but worse still is the acting, I will always watch a film with Dolph Lundgren, a bit of an 80's legend, and his acting is fine, but everyone else is so wooden. I wonder if most of the $2m budget went on his fee, rather then wages and special effects budgets. There's not much else to say to be honest, it's not abysmal, but it's far from good. 4/10

SHARK LAKE is a disappointingly below-par action thriller that has elements of the creature feature to boot. Source-wise, it seems to heavily copy scenes from PIRANHA 3D, one of my personal favourites from recent years, but in terms of quality it doesn't even come close. The only thing this has going for it is a reliable turn from the grizzled Dolph Lundgren as a shark hunter-type who has to tackle an infestation of the creatures in a lake. The writing is poor, the characters underwritten, and the budget precludes any decent FX or set-pieces; it's really not worth your time.
