The notion that 'chloroplasm and plutonium' radioactive ash could fertilize the desert is gibberish. However, the peaceful use of nuclear and thermonuclear bombs was very popular in the mid 1950s. One year after this episode aired, the AEC authorized 'Operation Plowshare' to look into developing peaceful uses for atom bombs. After ten years of unproductive research (which released frightening amounts of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere) the project was cancelled.

Good old Whit Bissell is acting a little strange. He is snapping at people. Four pounds of fissionable material is missing and the police and other scientists are watching him. They even bring out a psychiatrist to diagnose his aberrant behavior. The story has no hints at all as to what is going on. There is a concentrated search for an escaped radioactive dog from the lab. The devil-may-care attitude of people exposing themselves to radiation is interesting. One group wears radiation suits while the others join them in street clothes. Maybe the show only owned a couple suits. Anyway, the result is disappointing in that the project that Whit is working on isn't set up by the facts previously introduced. A bad bit of storytelling.
