One of two episodes which originally produced first by DIC (which did not show Captain Planet's wearing boots).
The Planeteers were introduced (receiving their rings) according to age: apparently Kwame was 17, Gi and Wheeler were both 15, Linka was 14, and Ma-Ti was 12.
Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton were also stars of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Captain Planet and the Planeteers was the 2nd TV show which the two actors worked together, the same time as Star Trek: The Next Generation.
