In the children's ward, Ruth meets Danny, a new patient who rejects her overtures of friendship. Bill becomes uncomfortable during his meeting with Mrs. Berger at the adoption agency, as her probing questions about his personal life rattle him. Althea has a session with Bill in which she reflects on her relationship with her father. Ruth detects an expression of worry on Bill's face and fears his interview with Mrs. Berger didn't go well.
