As part two begins we have Lucas in a Wyoming town pretending to be a villain in order to apprehend some bandits that are stealing guns and selling them to the Indians. But the problem is that a local drunk knows that Lucas is working for the local Marshal and just has to tell someone. So now Lucas is unaware that the bandits are on to his real intentions. Lucas is in hot water.

This story has just about everything a western needs to grab the viewers attention. From the town of North Fork fighting a cattle disease, Mark believing his father has abandoned him and the problem that Lucas is facing in Wyoming. As a person that is not fond of two part western shows, this is the exception. Very good story that was entertaining to watch.

THE RIFLEMAN – The Wyoming Story: Part 2 - 1961

Chuck Connors headlines this 1958 to 1963 western series that ran for 168 episodes. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle. This of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.

Hoof and mouth disease hits North Fork and wipes out all the local cattle herds. With no cattle to sell, the town starts to lose people who move on elsewhere to start again. Rancher, Connors is in the same boat and his savings are at the end. He takes a job as an undercover detective for the government. They would like him to infiltrate a gang of bushwhackers working out of a town in Wyoming.

North Fork Sheriff, Paul Fix fakes up some charges and sends out a few wanted posters to Wyoming. Connors rides into the Wyoming town and soon makes his presence felt. This gets the attention of the main villain, Kent Taylor, and his number one, Chris Alcaide. The two run a gang that sells rifles to the local Cheyeene tribe.

Taylor make a killing by robbing Army supply wagons and selling the proceeds to the natives. They soon put Connors to work on several of the holdups. Now that he has the evidence needed, he contacts the local law, Russell Thorsen. A slight problem arises though when the town drunk, Dabbs Greer, overhears Connors and Thoresen talking.

Greer lets slip to the wrong people that Connors is really a undercover Lawman. Needless to say there is a lively exchange of lead involved before the crooks are put in their place, Boot Hill.

With the reward money, Connors has enough to buy a good bull and several cattle for a new herd. He rides back to North Fork for a grand reunion with son Johnny Crawford.

This review covers part one and part two of the episode. The action is again handled with ease by director, Joseph H Lewis.
