A real world drinking game in the skydiving community involves drinking shots every time a character in the movie says the phrase "Cut away". Injuries have been known to happen at these occasions.
Leading up to the skydiving scene where Cooper has does his first tandem-jump with Star, the camera films the red & white plane they are flying in. The aircraft is a DHC-6-100 Twin Otter, and at the time of shooting the movie, it was owned and operated by Skydive Sussex, not far from New York.
As heard in the bar, the phrase "Blue Skies, Black Death" has for many years been a reminder to us, that there is a price to pay for the freedom experienced in skydiving, and have widely been used when a skydiver dies.
