While Mike and Jill are out celebrating their wedding anniversary a gunman comes into the restaurant they are dining in and starts shooting. Jill is seriously injured and loses her baby. Mike apprehends the gunman, but they soon learn that he has a brain tumor and that they may not be able to prosecute him because of it. Officers Webster and Gillis investigate the possibility that the shooting was planned and wasn't because the shooter had a brain tumor.

Mike and Jill are celebrating their wedding anniversary when a crazed gunman starts shooting and Jill is hit by a bullet.

An excellent episode, one of the best. Wainz, the gunman is played by James Olson making his second appearance as a psycho killer in the series, the last one was in the Season 1 episode "The Good Die Young'. Adding to the drama is Jill was pregnant at the time of the shooting and had not told Mike about it, she is OK but the baby dies. It seems Wainz is suffering from a brain tumor which may explain his violent behavior. Doctors operate on him but he is still just as homicidal as before. Jill is very bitter and distant toward Mike but Lt. Ryker shows up and gives her some tough talk to snap her out of it.
