Islamic patterns and American quilts and the colors and geometry of flags as an abstract field of reflection.

Collision (2005) Online

A soundtrack of nature gives way to motors and machines, then an explosion, followed by sounds of explosions and gunfire. On the screen are images as if in a kaleidoscope - of red, white, and blue shapes and of black and green shapes. Islamic and U.S. patterns appear and disappear. Is the collision one of dissonant colors, shapes, and images? Is warfare inevitable?

Islamic patterns and Ameican quilts go back-and-forth in the form of a kaleidoscope in patterns. All along we hear a little music alternating, too, and the patterns explode like fireworks. It's all very beautiful; in fact, stunning.

If you enjoy looking through a kaleidoscope - and who doesn't? - you should really enjoy this short little film. It is a real visual treat.

The reds, whites and blues of the Americans and the greens, blacks and blues of the Islamic both look fantastic in this short visual presentation. There is no story; just the visuals and they are spectacular. It's like a Fourth Of July fireworks show!

This film was included in THE ANIMATION SHOW VOLUME THREE--a compilation of short films arranged by Don Hertzfeldt and Mike Judge. Overall, this is a very impressive DVD--and much of it is due to CITY PARADISE.

COLLISION is like the other films in this compilation in that it is strange and not particularly funny. However, I just didn't like it. The film consists of various geometric shapes that move like they are in a kaleidoscope. Later, they look much like fireworks. It's very colorful and bright but also very repetitive and not particularly interesting or inspired. Even though the film isn't great, don't let it turn you off as it's pretty short and the rest of the collection is dandy.
