Mont St. Michel is a rocky promontory in the Bay of St. Michel, on the coast of France. It is joined to the mainland by a dike, built within comparatively recent years. On the summit of the Mount is a Benedictine Abbey, one of the most remarkable monuments of French military and monastic architecture in existence.
