Why the low score? Because I finally decided, no, this is really not my kind of show. I'm a big Jennifer Love Hewitt fan, but she plays against some serious competition in my mind, there is a "ghost" that keeps getting in the way. Let me just say, Jennifer is one hot chick, there are sixteen, seventeen year old girls who cannot hope to compare with her here, but in my mind, Jennifer always plays against the unbeatable odds, the fifteen year old she used to be starting out in PARTY OF FIVE. That is what ruins it for me here. I keep comparing. She looked stunning in that red dress this episode. She looked damn fine. She is one of the most beautiful people in the whole wide world. But I am two-timing her with the girl she used to be. In PARTY OF FIVE, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, HEARTBREAKERS, that era.

Also, I do not think much of the supporting cast. They're mostly off-putting, no come on, they are all off- putting except the two children, and Colin Egglesfield, who cuts a dashing male lead.

To wit, Elisabeth Rohm in a pivotal smaller role, that fake Southern accent, dull superficial performance, aww skip it! Cybill Shepherd, ah she's just coasting along. Loretta Divine, easily replaceable by the first other black mama that comes along. Naturi Naughton, you too are simply riding on the shoulders of a white girl. Hey, you lot, half your pay checks ought to go to Jennifer :) without her, what would you be???

Obviously, the script is bound to pick up, shortly after placing last week's review, it dawned on me that the "religious undertones" of the first three episodes sets up the problem Riley is going to have to face when she is caught out: the disapproval, the moral indignation, the judgmental scorn. For now though, it's all a bit, well, slow...

She DID look marvelous in that tailor-made dress. But it didn't save the episode.
