The manga that the anime is based on had a big influence on the Dark Souls (2011) video game series.
The series was going to be aired on Adult Swim but had too much graphic violence.
When Guts' massive sword is unsheathed from his back the sheath often looks similar to a devil's tail. This is most likely a reference to the numerous times Guts or those he encounters are said to have "The Devil's own luck".
Guts' sword weighs in at approximately 400lb and is 6'6 long- the longest sword to have ever been used in combat in the real world was 7' long but weighed only 14lb
The series was going to air on the Sci-Fi Channel but Sci-Fi channel couldnt get the rights to it
The North America DVDs from Media Blasters come in red DVD cases - to resemble blood.
Guts' appearance is said to be based on Rutger Hauer
