Inge (Brooke Bundy) is a Swedish girl arriving to study college in California where her stern long-time boyfriend Gunnar (Walter Koenig- Ensign Pavel Chekov of "Star Trek"), who is also like a father figure, runs a business. She is staying with the Lawrences until dorms open the following week. Gidget (Sally Field) is appalled by how Inge is treated like a slave by Gunnar. Gidget teaches her how to manipulate boys to get what she wants. (It's kind of fighting manipulation with manipulation- a bad message.) The boys line up for dates, including Gidget's boyfriend Mark (Robert Random). Gidget now sees that she was wrong to change Inge, as she no longer cares about school, just dating boys. Gidget invites Gunnar and Mark over for an evening with her and Inge. Gidget tries to come on to Gunnar by showing an interest in business. Gunnar is forced to watch Inge do a hip dance with Mark. Mark sees how wild and willful Inge has become. Inge throws and destroys a stack of dishes that belonged to the Lawrences, which earns her a light spanking from Gunnar. How will the evening affect everyone's mindset? It's strange in that its an episode that holds one's attention throughout, yet is a poor message.

A girl from Sweden spends a week with Gidget. The girl has never been surfing, been to a dance or the Malt Shop so Gidget introduces her to a new world. The girl starts to love the "beach culture" The disturbing part happened when the girl's straight-laced boyfriend shows up. He hates the change in his girlfriend and he turns her over his knee and SPANKS her! This to teach her a lesson. I didn't like it. Neither Gidget nor the girl think there is anything wrong. The message is you must conform to your boyfriends ideas of how to act or you will be punished by you superior boyfriend. The idea that being struck by man is okay is terrible. This show is not worth watching although the series is not bad overall.
