I've waited almost 20 years to see this film, the soundtrack to which remains one of the most memorable throughout my entire teen & adult life.

After finally having had the chance to see it on DVD recently, re-living Anu Malik's golden soundtrack along with the film was quite the experience.

Generally, the film is fair with a decent plot. Raveena Tandon's character is a bit sketchy, as she plays a woman who enters into a second marriage to that of Saif Ali Khan's character (a wealthy singer) under pressure from her materialistic father (played by Dalip Tahil) while being dishonest in not telling her new husband about her past marriage to Sunny Deol's character (a simple, honest worker) who was thought of as deceased due to dealings with rouge elements (played by Gulshan Grover & Mohan Joshi) also having had a daughter with him (played by Baby Ghazala).

Shakti Kapoor's performances are fair, however comedy scenes with Asrani are weak. Johnny Lever would have probably been a better cast for comedic roles in the film.

There are some decent action scenes with Sunny Deol including the climax of the film which was nothing special in terms of action sequences.

The film's melody packed soundtrack by Anu Malik together with Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik & Bela Sulakhe's timeless vocals on 'Is Tarah Aashiqi Ka', 'Chura Ke Daman'& 'Chaaha To Bahut' are still to be relished and remain golden 90's super hit masterpieces to this day.

A film worth checking out if you are a die-hard 90's Bollywood music lover.

In 1990's there were several films with great music, melody got a boost and which resulted in several times cash registers ringing. Those days Nadeem Shravan, Anu Malik used to give hit songs and several times films worked only because of music. Imtihaan(1995) is a remake of Hamraaz(1967) which starred Sunil Dutt, Rajkumar. The film was made in those days when Saif was slowly coming up the ladder but was restricted to second lead roles, Sunny was going through a great phase after hits like Damini but he too had some flops in between, Raveena was suddenly famous after the Mast Mast song from Mohra. The film starts with Saif Ali Khan who is a famous singer, who falls for Raveena who has a haunting past which is interestingly handled. The film does have the clichés of 1990's films but yet is well handled by Harry Baweja. The scenes involving Saif and Raveena are well handled while the flashback scenes too are superb. The way the story transforms from a romantic story to a drama is well handled. There are some stupid scenes like how Sunny Deol survives 2 times even after being shot but such things were forgiven in 1990's films.

Direction by Harry Baweja is good Music by Anu Malik was one of the strongest assets Those were the days when melody ruled as said before,Kumar Sanu was on the top those days and had several hit songs to his credit. In this film he sings 4 songs(all for Saif) Do Baatein, Is Tarah Aashiqui, Chuda Ke Damaan and Chaha to Bahot all are fantastic.Vinod Rathod sings Dheere Dheere(Sunny, Raveena) which is fabulous number. while the last song Ek Yaad Ke Sahare(Saif) is fantastic. The original version of Is Tarah(Sunny Deol) is fantastically sung by Amit Kumar.

Saif Ali Khan who those days didn't have the macho looks he got now, had a lean body and long hair yet he gives a good performance Saif was always likable though he had an annoying nasal voice those days yet he does a good job in the role. Sunny Deol is his usual action hero self, yet he does well in his second lead role. Raveena Tandon who was yet to prove her acting talent does well in her role. Gulshan Grover, Mohan Joshi, Dalip Tahil, Avtar Gill, Shakti Kapoor and all rest are as usual.

Imtihaan is interestingly done. The main idea is an apparent widow remarrying after her husband (Sunny Deol) is killed in an accident. She then marries the pop star (Saif Ali Khan). There are some thrills that follow throughout the film. There is a mysterious guy (we only see the feet of this guy), and I had a feeling that Sunny was the mysterious man. You know what, I was sooooooooo right. The way Sunny finds out the truth and gets answers is well done, so this film is a thriller to some extent. Performances are well done. Gulshan Grover excels as the trouble-maker. Asrani is funny as always! Even the climax is hard-hitting and mind-blowing with Sunny blowing out the baddies, and with a little help from Saif, and they blow out the baddies with big machine guns. At the end, Sunny is hit by bullets, but he is unstoppable as he vanquishes the last baddie, and then is hospitalized and saved, again. What a lucky man to have not just a 2nd chance but also a 3rd chance at life! Overall, this is a good time pass movie. Enjoy!

This is interesting and thrilling. You have to have a strong heart to watch this. Sunny Deol as the 2nd hero of sorts does well, especially when he survives injury twice (early and end). Saif is alright! Gulshan Grover is menacing. It is interesting how they show Sunny as a mysterious man looking for answers. Explosive climax. Sunny and Saif doing action together is different. The movie holds true to the title of testing one's love. It reminds you of Deewana (with SRK) to an extent, but ends a bit differently. On the whole, NOT a bad attempt at the story. It is alright for a time pass iff you have nothing else to do.
