Rodney is returning to Earth for his 2 weeks of leave and to attend a colleague's presentation on a scientific breakthrough. He's also managed to work up the gumption to ask Jennifer Keller if she will accompany him and she agrees. On Earth, they're attending a scientific conference hosted by Rodney's rival, Malcolm Tunney, against whom he has been competing for most of his life. When Tunney announces technology to solve global warming, McKay accuses him of stealing his ideas. Tunney decides to give his guests a live demonstration but when he finds he can't turn the devise off, he turns to McKay for help. The crisis also allows McKay and Jennifer to express their true feelings for one another.

Dr. Keller's reference to her uncle George's thoughts about "saving the planet" is most likely a nod to stand-up comedian George Carlin's skit about that very subject.

In the background of the lobby, after the freezing effect of one of the guests, we can see a memorial plate at the wall, naming "Carl Binder Memorial". Carl Binder is one of the authors of Stargate Atlantis.

Bill Nye is seen talking to a man in a wheelchair who is speaking through a computer-generated voice. This character is meant to represent theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking.

Dr. Keller asks if Rodney has 'tried these strawberries?' on the plane. Strawberries are a rare and much-treasured treat for Kaylee, Jewel Staite's Firefly character.

Just when you thought there would be no "surprise" episodes as SGA ends its run...this pile of quirk plops into your lap. Rodney takes Jennifer to a physics conference on Earth run by his old rival (Dave Foley - KIDS IN THE HALL, NEWSRADIO), who is about to implement a dangerous idea he doesn't realize he stole from Rodney. 100 of the world's top physicists are suddenly trapped in a compound which is about to freeze solid. Foley is understatedly spot-on funny. Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson play themselves, plus a credible facsimile of Stephen Hawking rolls by. And a nice little cameo by Gary Jones of SG1. It almost tips into too silly, but the menace (ice lightning, tornadoes) keeps it in line. Jennifer almost dies, then invites Rodney to join the mile-high club. He doesn't fumble the moment.

are the writers running out of ideas? i sure hope not. but doesn't this story seem a little "familiar"? how many others were disappointed with this last episode? now don't get me wrong i LOVE stargate: atlantis, but all they did was take a previous episode and set it on earth now laughing out loud. and all the other scientists equal a second Rodney McKay laughing out loud. loved the idea of freeze lightning, it was an interesting concept. and the tornado effects were neat too. and Dave Foley was a nice addition for a cameo. lol, UM.... 10 LINES HUH? can't wait to see the next episode, and i hope the series lasts for a very very very long time.
