The bat used on set was a combination of a mechanical bat, animated bat, and live bat.

Joss Whedon directed this episode with a subplot involving Jim transforming into a vampire. Whedon also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1996). His vamp mythology is borrowed heavily in this episode.

When Joss Whedon found out the script for the episode involved a bat and a joke about Jim turning into a vampire, he was initially surprised by the idea and assumed the writing staff was playing a joke on him. But they insisted that his directing this particular episode was completely random.

Joss Whedon directed this episode, and later went on to direct The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron; John Kransinski was poised to be cast as Captain America before Chris Evans was chosen.

In this episode Michael mentions a former teacher called Mr. Handel. "Handel" is actually the danish word for business which may refer to the title of the episode.

Yes this is what we all wanted, finally they are back. Few previous one's weren't looking good but now they are it has everything; pranks on Dwight, Michael's more embarrassing moments and to top it all off a great emotional touch in the end.

Ryan takes Michael with him to the business school presentation and Michael finds out Ryan doesn't think much of Dunder Mifflin.

I liked Michael's presentation, so much cringing it makes one laugh, like when he ripped the textbook pages! And him punishing Ryan when he ends up sitting next to Kelly is very funny too.

Pam's art show was also good. Roy trying to pretend he likes it and then the moment with Michael was just sweet. They both connected by having what was important to them criticized.

And Dwight with his bat added lots of laughter as well.
