I enjoyed it a lot because I was moved and it captured some of the madness, the warmth, the dignity and of course the sexiness of Rio. The characters were well acted, the humour was effortlessly funny and there is a storyline. However, you have to to pay attention to follow the cuts between story lines, it's a one bottle job not two. There was no dark side in this film, it capitalises on the positive qualities of Rio - after all it is a comedy. Couldn't help feeling there is kind of lazy morality about showing gun toting teenagers as defenders of the peace - how do you know that? There is no mention of the police and their role. There is a lot of travelogue and middle aged angst, maybe that's partly why i enjoyed it. Be warned if you are younger and/or haven't been to Rio give it a miss. If you aren't - watch it then go to the Rio!

It is rare that you see a film that is based in a brazil city. Just that alone makes this film very unique. And the people in it came from different parts of the world, that is also refreshing to watch. some of the actors are related in real life.

It is almost like a socialist film, because it showed you that in Rio, rich people live at nice places, poor people have to work as maids, live in ghettos.

It has some funny moments. It looks authentic to me, that is probably how people live in brazil. I also just enjoyed looking at those buildings, beaches, etc. It is better than a regular travel show.

Orinigally titled Gringos no Rio, Rio Sex Comedy is definitely worth the trip to the cinema! I am an American living in Rio and thought the film was a dead on portrayal of the culture shock we encounter upon arrival here; rife with authentic, honest, and spontaneously felt comedic scenes.

If you are not a Carioca or a gringo that has spent a significant amount of time in Rio, you will probably not understand the film or why it was made. The performances by Fisher Stevens, Charlotte Rampling and Bill Pullman, Irene Jacobs, and others were carbon copies of the characters they played-kudos to them and to the filmmaker. The fact that there probably wasn't much research or scripting involved in this film only helped the end result...By the way, the theater where the film was shown was full of laughter and smiles from the moment the film began until the moment it ended...

I know it's a cliché to review a film and state that it is so bad that you will regret the fact that you'll never get that hour and a half that you sat through it back, but in this case it is the painful truth.A single word to describe this film is:Annoying. Most of the time you don't know what the f... is going on and is really hard to care about any of the characters. Also the fact that it keeps switching languages,Portuguese,French,English,Native Brazilian Indian. The gratuitous nudity is exasperating. It's patronising in relation to the poor of Brazil and downright boring. The only good moment is when it ends and I don't mean the ending I mean the very end when the screen goes blank. The reviews that you can read above where obviously planted by the director or his mum.Trust me,this film is s..t,don't waste your time. It's c...p.It actually made me angry. You been warned.

Initially I thought this movie would be just as the title described A Rio Sex Comedy. Unfotunately I found it to rarely be funny, and mostly confusing because there are several stories that are simultaneously going on and none have been given an honest amount of time to develop, if they develop at all. Most frustrating to me was the pseudo-documentary about the plight of domestic workers, that didn't go anywhere. Yes people had sex in the movie but it was rarely comedic, and could have been left out completely. If you want to enjoy the movie, don't rent it, just watch the Trailer again and again...its just as entertaining.

Rio is HOT, seems the yanks once they get over the shock of needing a visa think Rio is a cool place to visit. The film is typical of what Yanks think that Rio might be but is not a complete picture of Rio just a US reflection of Brazilian city. Rio has great beaches and a big statue of a very white Christ overlooking a very brown city. The film is OK and would be a better look than say Fast Five so my rating is more based on compared to what is out there go see this one. City of God the only South American film to break most top ten lists is a much better film but less realistic than this one of what a tourist may find in Rio. Rio is not that sexy as people think it is so damn hot, too hot for sex. The performances are solid from some great actors.

I watched this with my Brazilian husband, just back from our honeymoon and feeling "saudade" for the city, and we laughed the whole way through.

It feels like a Gore Vidal kind of story, or early Woody Allen, a really enjoyable farce that deftly lampoons stereotypes and, if nothing else, perfectly captures the feeling of standing at the window over the streets and beaches of Rio.

Sexy, silly and thoughtful. If you are not Brazilian, or maybe a middle class French person having an Evelyn Waugh-style awakening, some of the humor may be lost on you.

The film has been bashed by Brazilian critics for an "insensitive" portrayal of Brazilians, but cues like an Amazon tribe whose name sounds like "Oi, Papi!" and Mary Sheila's silently awesome reactions to the shenanigans unfolding around her, let us know that the Brazilians are definitely in on the joke.
