Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla were a hit screen pair involved in hit films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Hum Hain Rahin Pyar Ke (1993). But because of a prank Aamir played on Juhi during the filming of this movie, Juhi refused to do any more projects with Aamir Khan for almost a decade. However the two have made up.
Kajol and Ajay Devgan, who are now married with one daughter named Nysa, met on the set of this movie.
Aamir Khan and Kajol would later work with each other in Fanaa (2006).
The film was one of the most expensive films of its time but still was a big blockbuster.
Aamir Khan said he did this film mainly because it had very high commercial promise and because he admired his fellow cast members Juhi Chawla, Ajay Devgan and Kajol.
Amitabh Bachchan was to star in the film. His role was to start after the intermission. He was to play a key character who helps bring the couple's together. Meanwhile the director Indra Kumar launched another film titled " Rishta" to be co produced with ABCL. (Amitabh's production house). Amitabh and Indra Kumar had some personal problems regarding the financial matter of Rishta. This caused Amitabh to shelve the film. Inder Kumar then decided it would be best to drop Amitabh's character from the movie Ishq. A song was already recorded by Sudesh Bhosle called "Mr Lova Lova", in his style of Amitabh's voice. Indra Kumar then decided to picturise the song with Johny Lever wearing different get ups from Amitabh's older films.
The last film in which Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla worked together.
Ajay Devgan and Juhi Chawla had already worked with each other in Naajayaz (1994) before working together in Ishq.
This is the only movie to feature Juhi Chawla and Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan's most famous lead heroines from other movies, on screen together.
Madhuri Dixit was offered the part of Juhi Chawla.
The tune of the song "Ishq Hua " was taken from the whistling intro of the "E Mere Humsafar" from Baazigar .
Karisma Kapoor was approached for Kajol's role but she turned it down because she did not want to work with Ajay Devgan.
Indra Kumar's first film which did not have his production.
Indra Kumar had planned the film back in 1991. He had signed Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt. After Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt had problems and both opted out. Boney Kapoor heard of this and decided to take advantage of the situation. He got Sanjay Kapoor signed for the film along with Vivek Mushran. But Indra Kumar had his doubts over the film and started Raja instead with Sanjay Kapoor. He would later revive Ishq with Aamir Khan once again and Ajay Devgan who was now replacing Vivek Mushran.
The only film till date to star Ajay and Aamir.
Indra Kumar's first film which did not have Madhuri Dixit in the lead apart from his earlier films like Dil 1990,Beta 1992 and Raja 1995.
The song "Mr. Lova Lova" was partly sampled from the song "Lover Man" from the album Kamlee 2. The song was sung Jayshree and Neville. The opening guitar segment was sampled from the American jingle "Can't Enough of Those Sugar Crisps" Sugar Crisp cereal commercial.
Aamir Khan worked for the first time with Kajol and Ajay Devgan in this film.
The song "Neend churai Meri" is a remake of the song "Sending all my love" by the American band named Linear.
The song Kaise Kahoon Kaise Ho Tum was sampled from Right beside you' by Sophie B Hawkins.
