There She Goes One Day in the Life of Rosie Yates (2018– ) Online

It's a typical Saturday for the family, one which revolves around trying to get Rosie, a nine-year-old girl with a learning disability, to do simple things - go to the park for some fresh air, eat her dinner, go to bed. She refuses to cooperate and leaves a trail of destruction in her wake, ramping up her father Simon's stress, who in his short-sighted attempts to get her to go to sleep too early only makes things worse. As Simon and his wife Emily are later distracted, Rosie causes carnage in the kitchen. An earlier timeline shows how Simon and Emily first confront the inescapable truth that something is wrong with their baby daughter.

Writer Shaun Pye is best known for his appearance in the Ricky Gervais sitcom Extras.

Pye uses his own real life experience of bringing up a disabled daughter for the opening episode of this dramedy. Although there are very few laughs here.

It is really a darker flipside to the television series Outnumbered. Eldest son Ben gets to do some sarcastic retorts though.

The show cuts between the present timeline of 2015 as parents Emily and Simon struggle with their daughter Rosie with even simple things like going to the local park. With flashbacks to the time when Emily was pregnant back in 2006 and after Rosie was born. Emily sensed something was wrong with Rosie. Her head size was too small, she was not being responsive to her mother's affections.

As Emily (Jessica Hynes) carries on through it all, it is Simon (David Tennant) who comes across as unsympathetic, frequently finding himself at a loss as to what to do when Rosie gets difficult.

There is an uplifting element to the show. Small breakthroughs such as Emily talking through the app on an Ipad.

Pye wanted a honest depiction of the difficulties of raising a disabled child but he also shows the rewards which helps the family pull together.

It is not an easy watch as Rosie has one of her many tantrums. Poor Ben gets forgotten, almost taken for granted for being normal. It is well acted by all the four main leads.
