The Terrytoons are oddly interesting, mainly for anybody wanting to see (generally) older cartoons made by lesser known and lower-budget studios. They are a mixed bag in quality, with some better than others, often with outstanding music and with some mild amusement and charm and variable in animation, characterisation and content.

1941, like all the other years for Terrytoons, saw a hit and miss batch though a little more consistent actually than the previous years. Of which 'Bringing Home the Bacon' is one of the better ones ranking it in correlation with the rest of the Terrytoons and one of the better 1941 cartoons. It is a quite good cartoon on its own as well. 'Bringing Home the Bacon' is also worth the look, completest sake is the main reason to see it but it's not the only reason.

Best asset is the music, which predictably is incredible. It is so beautifully and cleverly orchestrated and arranged, is great fun to listen to and full of lively energy, doing so well with enhancing the action. The ambitious, elaborate detail in the backgrounds is still great to see, as is the comparatively improved fluidity of drawing and movement, and some synchronisation in movement and sound is neat.

A number of well timed and amusing moments, touches, and there is lots of zest and natural charm. Many parts of it and the basic set up are nicely done, the start is a little slow but it quickly picks up. The characters are great fun with the fox stealing the show. The ending is cute without going overboard on that.

Outside of the backgrounds and more fluidity than seen previously however, a few of the transitions are not always polished.

The start is a little on the slow and too cute side too for my liking.

Drawbacks that are not big or frequent enough to significantly bring down a quite good cartoon, by Terrytoons standards and overall. 7/10 Bethany Cox

This is a one-shot cartoon produced by Terrytoons studio. There will be spoilers ahead:

This short starts out in a novel fashion, with fish swimming around and a fox tossing a rock into the water as a rather unusual fishing method. The rock makes a splash, a fish pops out of the water and the fox catches it and trots off.

The fish is brought home and little foxes begin to eat when hounds are heard by the large fox and the smaller ones are ushered inside their home while the larger fox diverts them from home and hearth. The fox successfully eludes the hounds and sets about getting more food.

The fox enters a hen-house and goes for the eggs rather than the hen, contrary to expectations. The hen sees her eggs gone and raises the alarm, bringing the guard dog running. The bulk of the cartoon is spent with the fox alternately putting food in a wheelbarrow and hassling with the dog. There's a nice gag with the dog taking the fox to a "No Trespassing-This Means You" sign and the dog making it clear that it means the fox.

The fox wins most of the exchanges until the dog finally gives up, fills the wheelbarrow to overflowing (even the doghouse) sending the fox on its way before breaking down in tears. The fox feels sorry for the dog, returning the house and going so far as to kiss the dog's head before leaving.

The pack of hounds catches up, spots the fox and the chase is resumed. The fox makes it back to the house safely with all the food and the closing gag is cute, so I won't spoil it here.

This cartoon is worth watching.

When a fox has to evade a hunting pack of dogs and bring home food to her kits, she finds she must contend with Puddy Pup -- or perhaps it's the other way around in this delightful Terrytoon.

Everyone on Paul Terry's staff seems to have been in a good mood when working on this cartoon and there is a particularly delightful score by Philip Scheib for this one. Puddy's character had been varying since his latest design a couple of years earlier, as competitor to Disney's Pluto Pup, but this is a very attractive outing for him He exhibits his now usual mixture of canine and human attributes and the gag construction is top-notch and fast paced.
