After World War I hostilities cease, the bulk of the German navy is surrendered to the British, which anchors the ships in Scapa Flow, off the coast of Scotland. Waiting for the armistice to be signed, German sailors aboard the ships find little to do during the bleak winter. In June, many of the interned ships sink at anchor.
