The series was reboot as Galingieji reindzeriai (2017) 3 years later.

Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, which also provided the inspiration for the Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical My Fair Lady.

ABC picked up the pilot on May 10th, 2014 before commissioning a first season soon afterwards.

On November 7th, 2014, ABC announced that the show had been canceled and would not return for a second season in 2015, due to low viewing figures.

If the series had not been cancelled. There would had been an episode which Eliza finds herself a victim of cyberbullying, which Eliza's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts are hacked by a hacker.

Selfie is a short-lived American comedy series that aired in 2014 and starred Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy) and John Cho (Star Trek, Total Recall). In Selfie, Karen Gillan stars as Eliza Dooley, a sexy, snobbish and selfish employee of a pharmaceuticals company whom decides to change and become a better person after a embarrassing incident aboard a airplane gets the attention of unwanted online followers and grumpy and short-tempered marketing expert Henry Higgs (John Cho) reluctantly becomes Eliza's mentor. But, complications soon emerges along the way as Eliza begins a romantic relationship with her arrogant co-worker Freddy (Giacomo Gianniotti) whom antagonizes Henry and Eliza begins to develop romantic feelings for Henry whom may not feel the same about Eliza.

If the series hadn't been canceled, there could had been an episode which Freddy decides to play a prank on Henry and humiliate him whilst making a speech during a conference which causes Henry to lose his nerve and punch Freddy and Saperstein fires Henry.

If the series hadn't been canceled, there could had been an episode which Eliza gets stalked online by an admirer and confronts him.

At the end of Selfie: Imperfect Harmony (2014) (TV Episode), the song Henry sings is "Wild World" by Cat Stevens.

The song Eliza sings in Selfie: Imperfect Harmony (2014) (TV Episode) is "Chandelier" by Sia.

Freddy is the show's main antagonist as Freddy antagonizes Henry.

Although Freddy is the show's main villain, in most episodes Henry would go from hero to zero as he would get really hard on Eliza and lose patience with her and would treat her badly and take things out on her especially when Eliza tries to help him or do something nice for him, but would end up apologizing to her.

Before the series premiered on the TV2 network in New Zealand. Karen Gillan attended the Armageddon Expo convention in Wellington, New Zealand with her parents Raymond and Marie.

The show has a lot of sexual references and Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) wears a lot of sexy outfits and is seen in her bra and underwear. In 1 show, an Instagram picture of Eliza topless, which her breasts are covered is seen. Another episode, Eliza is seen making out with a shirtless man on top of a bed, which her shirt is removed and we see her in a bra, but the scene ends and in another episode, Eliza is standing naked in front of Henry, but only her bare upper chest is seen.

The show premiered on the TV2 network in New Zealand on August 30th 2015.

When Imperfect Harmony (#1.10) was broadcast on TV2 in New Zealand. Henry singing "Wild World" by Cat Stevens at the end of the tenth episode hints that Henry felt really bad about hurting Eliza when he rejected her affections for him and his regret for refusing to take part in the annual karaoke party.

Selfie: Imperfect Harmony (2014) was voted by fans as the best episode and the saddest episode of the entire series due to Henry rejecting Eliza's affections for him.

This series is presented in many ways as a modern adaptation of "My fair lady". If nothing else the 2 main protagonists names are derived straight from those of the well know musical and later film. Eliza Doolittle has become Eliza Dooley, and Henry is an obvious reference to Henry Higgins!

To be honest this connection wasn't necessary if you check the first 2 episodes of "Selfie". It could have worked with any names since the actual premise is completely different.

The 2 stars are Karen Gillan who is very photogenic and pleasant to watch and John Cho who after the first 2 episodes has proved himself as very suitable for the part.

The series it is basically a satire of the social media and the modern way (young) people communicate. Tweeter, facebook, are constantly mentioned and can be seen in screens in most of the scenes. Loose sex attitude, casual relations, the addiction of the social media themselves are a prominent theme of the show.

It's not hilariously funny, despite some strong off-beat humor, but will make you smile to say the least.

The work place is an ...advertising company (again?? gimme a break!! isn't any other business out there for a new series) and that is the only thing that actual bothered me. Well that, and the fact that Eliza is presented like a total ho!

Overall: Good intentions, a very cute leading lady. Check it out.

Okay, first of all, I will admit that I, too was thrown off by the name. Who wants to watch a show about a narcissistic twentysomething when I can just go on instagram?

BUT THAT'S THE POINT!!!

Henry Higgs (sexiest marketing guru alive) helps Eliza Dooley to realize that there's more to live besides taking selfies, getting "likes", and having adoring online fans. In the midst of it all, their relationship blossoms and their chemistry is CRAZY.

We're talking ovary-exploding sexual tension.

On top of that, this is the FIRST strong Asian-American male lead on television. And we're in 2014, people!

Please, ABC - renew this wonderful show that speaks to so many of us. We can't let Selfie die. #thestruggleisreal #saveselfie

In spite of the horrid title I am growing ever fonder of this little gem of a show with each passing episode. Based on the title and the marketing I feared that this show would embrace those with their heads so surgically attached to a little glowing screen that they wouldn't even notice their own imminent demise. However this show cleverly winnows out both the pluses and minuses of SMOD ( social media obsession disorder - I'm just making that up but if you want to tweet it knock yourself out ) for this very unique take on Pygmalion. The leads are solid (who would have thought John Cho would be right for this but he just is) and at episode 4 the strength of the supporting cast is beginning to emerge. And it is funny. I love the rapid fire swipes at meme-du-jour sprinkled in each episode but now as the characters and situations become more a little more complex, it is truly becoming laugh out loud funny. Yep, out loud. Do yourself a favour and watch it.

I wasn't expecting much from this show but after reading a few reviews I gave it a try. This quickly became one of my all time favorites and I just can't believe I won't see any more of it! There are a few series that I would expect to be canceled before this one. I am disappointed because ABC gave up so quickly, they didn't give it a chance it deserves..Shame on you ABC! Of course it isn't pure perfection but it is SO entertaining, funny and perky like its main character. Eliza and Henry are an unusual but very likable combination. ABC should've finished the season properly at least. Now I have a feeling of unfinished thing and I hate it. Watch this show because it will make you happy in just a few minutes. The only problem is that you'll be sad after you finish watching it ...

Look, I won't bore you with the obvious slightly sketchy sketches. I'm only here to make a single point. Why doesn't a show named "Selfie" cater to its online audiences (of which I am a part) instead of only counting its television watchers? I guarantee this show will not make it to season 2 because of the flawed system of Nielsen ratings. Disgusting. Too many fantastic shows have fallen victim to the corrupt, outdated system.

We need to account for the online traffic in this day and age. There needs to be a new system of rating television shows, or we must adopt the "Legend of Korra" means of going about business and post shows strictly to the Internet.

Television is a thing of the past.

As an Asian woman, I am super excited to see an Asian American being the leading actor. I'm in love with this show (and John Cho, he is smoking hot!! <3) that I have seen every single episode three times already, though I strongly agree with some other comments that the title sucks not attractive at all, so minus one star for choosing selfie as the tile. Please do not cancel this show, it is fun, interesting, cute, and it is the very first American romantic show that has a male Asian American playing the leading role. I have a feeling that if this show gets canceled, we will have to wait at least 20 years to see another Asian American actor as the leading role in a romantic comedy. So, please, keep this show alive!!

As others have commented here, I'd seen the title listed before and had absolutely no interest in seeing this--until I saw it starred Karen Gillian and John Cho.

In watching the pilot I was delighted to discover this is a modern adaptation of My Fair Lady, without the singing and expanded to a series. Whether or not the writers can manage to make it work in this format is yet to be seen, but the pilot looks good. Gillian and Cho have a high standard to live up to with their modern versions of characters popularized by Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, but these two may actually be able to pull it off. I don't believe there are many performers today that could.

In short, if you like Gillian, Cho, My Fair Lady, or Pygmalion (the original story on which My Fair Lady was based,) you have to see this show. If you are unfamiliar with any of them, check it out anyway, you may find the time watching it well worth it.

Honestly though, the worst thing I find in this show is the title "Selfie". It turned me off and I wouldn't have bothered watching had it not been for the stars. Rebranded, this show could be a winner.

The show is a modern take on Pygmalion/My fair lady. The acting from the lead character Eliza is great. Her voice, mannerisms and pronunciations are spot on. The dialogue is witty, and the story is funny with just the right amount of depth to keep it interesting. The theme so far is dominated by the question of loneliness, how different people adopt different strategies to cope with it. The style does remind a bit of Suburgatory, a show that I enjoy.

I was just going to get the next episode when I realized...it was a pilot! The horror! I really love the show and actually rewatched the episode two times. Now I have to wait a couple months for another episode, and perhaps they won't even make a show out of it!? I hope it becomes an instant hit because it won me over.

Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) is a self-obsessed pharmaceutical sales rep who seems to annoy everybody at work and is more interested in online relationships than real-life ones. Henry Higgs (John Cho) is the marketing genius of the company. Eliza needs help to make friends and she seeks Henry's help at rebranding. It's a modern rebranding of 'Pygmalion' and 'My Fair Lady'.

Let's face it. The stupid name is tough to get over. It doesn't help that the show has to bent and twist to fit the premise. It would be so much easier to have Emily Kapnek write something completely original. The good part of the show is the pairing of Gillan and Cho. They are two of my favorite actors. She's got the wacky energy. He's the straight man Harold while she's perfect as a version of Kumar. It just takes some time to get there and the other characters/actors aren't as compelling. Gillan's American accent does fall flat once in awhile and I do miss a word or two. Nevertheless, I would love to see them do something else together.

Yes, the title is cringe worthy, yes it's a romantic comedy, and yes there are jokes about social media and people taking selfies, but it's done to make fun of our modern society. You can tell the actors are not taking themselves too seriously. This makes perfect sense. The whole show is a satire like the Simpsons. Even the Simpsons have had way more crude jokes and yet it's still the longest running series ever produced.

As I am writing this, we are only at the third episode and people are already criticizing about the quality? Keep in mind, even the highly rated shows like X-Files, ER, and House M.D. have had some episodes that were not as good as some of the others. We need to give this show a chance. The characters have to be developed and the actors I feel are doing an excellent job so far with their physical facial humor, sometimes emotional acting, clever humorous timing, and an overall message about everyday life.

The two leads Karen Gillan and John Cho make an excellent complimentary pair. John Cho's character Henry is uptight and worries with analytical ideas that is trying to help Karen Gillan's character Eliza (who is spur of the moment, live life, don't care attitude) to better herself. I'm sure many can recognize the My Fair Lady spin and Pretty Woman. The shows humor also reminds me of movies like Clueless, Mean Girls, and Easy A and they were all successful both critically and financially.

One final note, this may be the only show ever produced with an Asian male lead in a romantic comedy, and I'm not saying the show is better because of that, but this also breaks stereotypes as well.

Just watched the first episode. The pacing is a little awkward but there's a lot of promise. I think Henry and Eliza have excellent chemistry and with a few more episodes, this could definitely be a great show.

Not a huge fan of the Internet jargon used in the episode though. I'm a 20-something woman and none of my co-workers talk like that. Only the kid who goes to college and randomly shouts out "yolo" or "hashtag sigh". If I use Internet jargon, it is only ever used on the Internet. #sadlyfe

However, still think Henry and Eliza are mega cute. I do hope the show goes beyond those two as characters. If they pull the female friendship dynamics, (that scene with Wren and her friends LOL!) that would be really fantastic. Female relationships, specifically friendship, is so underplayed in TV/film right now.

Selfie could do a decent job at being very relevant on Tumblr if they had something people could relate to. Eliza is definitely not a Liz Lemon (in terms of gif-ability) but she shows promise for it. Show us more of her awkwardness, her clumsiness, her "Most Butt"- ness and I think the Internet would love her.

But for now, it only shows promise. Hopefully it gets better in the future! I REALLY want this show to be good.

BTW, did anyone spot the Matt Smith reference? Hahahah!

OK well to start off i am a guy so that might be why I say that the show wasn't that funny to me more female jokes but I did however like it and got a few laughs our title friend of the show is a very liked person who just needs to learn to live life away from her phone once in awhile and have actual conversation with the world around her she is a very sweet but extremely selfish lady in the beginning of the story but she is slowly coming along with the help of her newly found friends she may be able to succeed in her goal i think that I am going to keep it around at least awhile and see if it gets better than this i give it a b so far as a grade and rating oh and ps u might be able to let the kids watch too not that dirty

I LOVED the show and the lead characters' chemistry, their doomed romance and HATED that ABC dropped it just when the story line was climaxing for the season. I LOVED how Henry started loosening-up under Eliza's tutelage just and she was softening her very rough (read 'slutty') edges. Eventually, Henry realized that he loved her, but not before he hurt her feelings with that stupid "peer" proper romance that he felt he MUST have, if he was to have one at all! The secondary story lines involving the elevation of her station in the vitamin company, the smart black woman sister-friend and the idiotic boss and his simple family were crazy backdrops to their budding romance and undoubtedly helped to cement their friendship. My fave show was the last one aired on ABC, where Eliza sang Sia's CHANDELIER--A CAPELLA!!!! Girl's got major pipes!! GO GILLIAN!!! I really enjoyed the comedy sans laugh track. I felt it was an intelligent comedy. I'd heard that another network was picking it up, but saw no more about that. Great job Emily Kapnek , cast and crew! You hit one out of the park with this one! I look forward to more shows from all of them and Ms. Kapnek in the not too-distant future!

Despite being put off by the title and previews, I decided to watch the pilot and give it a chance. I was familiar with Cho, but not Gillian. To be honest, I almost turned it off after the first few minutes on the plane, which featured an obnoxious lead character, bad jokes and poorly executed gags. But once the characters (esp Eliza) were allowed to develop and open up a bit in the second half-hour, they quickly became likable, sympathetic and easy to relate to. By the end of the pilot, Gillian and Cho have a charming rapport and a hint of romantic chemistry. I also thought the supporting characters were well cast. Looking forward to the upcoming season, but I agree with other reviewers that the simple premise doesn't provide for a long running series.

Some days a smart busy girl just wants to chill out at home and live vicariously through a stylish, successful, clueless, "former nerd" ditz. She's like a dumbed-down yet trendy and attractive Ugly Betty. The fact that John Cho (Harold & Kumar, Sleepy Hollow)is in this is a complete PLUS for me. Selfie being a modern spin off of My Fair Lady is another PLUS for me. I also like the fact that she is trying to turn herself around and be more "people friendly." As a Nerd-Girl myself, I totally can relate to not knowing what to say to people, even "How are you?" is a total challenge. I really like John Cho's wise-older-man advice; it's informative and funny. Also, not a "Mindy" fan & not a "New Girl" fan - so this is "def" the show for me. :-)

Having only seen the first episode I cannot speak for the rest, however, the first episode sets the scene and mood to follow very quickly and is easy to get into. It's not a deep philosophical drama about the affect that modern technology has on people and their lives, but it does have an interesting plot based on that principle. And again when I say it has an interesting plot, it's not one of those programs (so far as I know) that will have sudden or dramatic changes and climax's, on the edge-of-your-seat type shows. But I liken it to shows like New Girl, Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. It's not the type of show to leave you feeling distraught because one of them died, it's a feel good show with difference. I think it stands out (I have heard it's similar to the Mindy Project though) and I think that It will surprise you how much you will enjoy it. Especially if you're a man and you think you're too Macho to watch a program about a girl who takes selfie.

Karen Gillan is what attracted me to this show because of her phenomenal acting; however I was turned off by the title of this series. The show is open to more audiences than the title will attract. I hope that more people see the commercials/hear about the show and realize that this show is more than just "pop culture". I sat through the pilot and genuinely liked the script/comedy.There were some parts that needed to be explained more, but that's why there is a whole series! As far as acting, the actors captured their characters well. This show's pilot,I feel, did not set up the rest of the season.Hopefully the plot will develop more elaborately as the series moves forward. I see potential in this show and will continue to watch it!

The show started a little goofy but after the first 5 minutes, the show was pretty darn good!

Give it a chance people! I really like the references to cell phone slang and social media posts. The poor girl shows just how lonely someone can be because of social media. 1000's of followers means nothing more than you have some quality people like or dislike and want to see more of.

I am not sure how Johnny Cho and Karen Gillan work romantically though. Very odd pairing I think. They should bring in a co-worker to romance her quickly and have his character be a quirky musician or something with the same problems she has.

my friend recommend this show to me, it really great than I thought, really like it. This show helps me a lot in real life. it is very helpful for international students to know American's lifestyle. I have no idea how to greeting people before I watched this show. And this show is also have some fashion elements. I haven't seen interesting modern fashion TV show since gossip girl ended, recently. However, it is hard to image the romance relationship between Henry and Eliza. it seems like writer haven't thought about what will happened next. ABC, please don't cancel this show, it's funny. all you need to do is promote it hard!

‪#‎SelfieABC‬ it saddens me to hear that selfie is getting canceled. is it a hilarious show, no. but is it a good show, yes! The plot makes general sense, plus with the modern uses of social media, and other pop culture references, it becomes a fun show to watch, and is right on target for our time period. Karen Gillian does such a great job of playing a character that is funny, sexy, and totally not in tune with real human interaction, and interpersonal relationships. I think I lot of people don't like it because Karen Gillian's character is a promiscuous woman, instead of a feminist successful woman. So what!? She is trying to be a better person and thats whats important, and is important and fits perfectly with the plot. I highly suggest you watch it so maybe we can still save such a good show.

The series starts out slow and shallow. But at the end and you feel for both the characters and the business and social faces they wear.

To bad it was cancelled - missed an opportunity to develop characters who hate/love each other.

So sad the play had been canceled during air on ABC. Really wished there were a second season coming out.

The play has done a great job on recreating an intriguing concept from renowned playwright George Bernard Shaw - remodelizing a social personality disorder girl who craves for attention of others and dwells on her social networks with tons of millions followers on Internet, and got a messed up real life experience. The resemblance between the classic and the show may rest solely on the nostalgic characters names and the similar plot frame, in which the director did a great job on the distinctions of featuring and adopting modern elements to the show, which reveals the concept in a brand new vein.

Eliza Dooley is the protagonist of the story who turns to Henry Higgins for helping her rebuild her lost image from an insightful night after the social network disasters she's gone through. Then Higgins started a typical product rebuild of Eliza Dooley at his expertize, transform her real life into normal people's lives. Here's actually a kind of down point for the show, I actually don't really get it why Higgins was willing to help her at the first place, the lines were not that clear of the purpose of Higgins. But later on, everything started to flourish, the story started to get interesting. The hot spots are not really the romance between Higgins and Dooley, but their intimate friendship, which brings out a lot funny stuff around them and their office colleagues.

The intriguing fact of Selfie is, every episode is like a life lesson Henry teaches Eliza. But Henry himself is pretty much also a social personality disorder man, in a conservative way, never uses social network; only has a linkined account; rather have birthday alone than receiving gifts from colleagues; workaholic and totally "obsessed" with his boss...... But he himself in the remodelizing journey of Eliza, he got influenced day by day, soon enough found out his obsession of Eliza in which he scared to tell as the matter of his conservative disordered personality. But when the heat arose between the two people, the show got unexpectedly canceled, left with a really-not-like-an-ending ending.

Speaking of the endings, with the love of two classic pictures,

Far to old 1930s, there was an old English picture of Pygmalion, and then comes out the Hollywood version My Fair Lady. They all have their own characteristics. The Pygmalion focuses on following the original, My Fair Lady does an effort on musical and plot expanding. When the lower class flower girl with an "uneducated" English language becomes an Internet monster who indeed lacks all kinds of attention, rebuilding emerges. They are all completely different from the beginning, but Selfie takes us to a funnier process and ending. My Fair Lady is bout all kinds of complexity, we got our lovely Audrey Hepburn back at the end but as a "maid" to the professor. And pygmalion has braced her whole new life out there and abandoned the professor in Pygmalion.

Yes, we do have a mediocre ending attributed to the bad marketing of the show, but still, the show got a decent quality to watch. 8/10.

You can totally binge watch this show on a Sunday afternoon. Though, it does look like a show you would have watched earlier. Some of the sequences in the show is like déjà vu. Besides all the repackaged content, the show is fun to watch.

The chemistry between the lead pair keeps you going for the next episode.

Too bad that the series was canceled! Would have loved to see what happens between Eliza & Henry. Totally agree that the title of the show does throw you off from putting this show on your to-watch list. All in all it is super mindless, time pass and fun show to watch. It is a TV equivalent of a chick flick.
