Behr previously played Billy "Ford" Fordham in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Lie to Me (1997) while Tobolowsky himself played Principal Flutie in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Unaired Pilot (1996). During the 2001-2002 season, Roswell (1999) aired directly after Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1996) on UPN on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (EDT) .

In reality, Jonathan Frakes never directed an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise (2001) and the storyline in which the Enterprise crew is infected with Rigelian fever and Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley) must find obtain the cure ryetalyn was never used on the series. However, both the disease and the cure were established in Star Trek: Requiem for Methuselah (1969).

Per Jonathan Frakes on the episode Commentary for 'Secrets and Lies' the cafe scene was filmed the day before 9/11, and they were supposed to film on 9/11, but it was canceled due to the attack.
