This is the first episode Jess is absent. In real life, Zooey is out on maternity leave after the birth of Elsie Otter. During this episode, the newscaster mentions the birth of a new otter at this zoo. This is possibly a reference to Zooey's daughter.

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is absent due to jury duty. The cast is sitting on the couch watching the news and the news reader says there has been an otter born at the zoo. Zooey Deschanel was absent during this episode as she had recently given birth to her first child, Elsie Otter Pechenik.

Because if it is I don't get it. It's like a cross between a commercial for something I don't want and an amateur YouTube video about something I don't care about. OK I'll give it some credit for Fred Armisen. Not because he's any good but because we're supposed to naturally assume it's ironic about something. But otherwise it's just random screaming. Again, is it a comedy or has it devolved into a post ironic self referential ironic comment about itself while watching an ironic video of itself by itself? I can't tell. I do know it's not funny. Not even a little bit. At all. Ever. In any. Way. By the way, 40 is the new 18. We are so doomed As a culture.
