Philip Mazzei is the Florentine surgeon who became an American Patriot and businessman, horticulturist, pamphleteer and, a political advisor and good friend of Thomas Jefferson. Mazzei's ideas on religious and political freedoms found their way into the Virginia State Constitution and into the US Declaration of Independence. Mazzei became an American Ambassador to Europe to raise funds for the oncoming American Revolution. He wrote, perhaps the first history of the Colonies and the newly formed nation for the Europeans, which, even today, remains an invaluable historic US Document.
