Archer submits the paths to fix the plane are to pay to get it fixed but needing the plane fixed to get the money necessary. Pam says it's a catch 22. Archer says he doesn't think that's a thing yet. The novel "catch 22" came out during the time of the Vietnam War and was used as a scathing , albeit comical at times indictment against actions during the current war while set in the timeline of the past one so as to not be so overtly political.

Various lines of dialogue establish that this season takes place shortly before World War II.

When Archer and Pam are discussing what the idol might be, Pam breaks the fourth wall to make plain that it's definitely not a gold monkey. This is a reference to the 1982 series Tales of the Gold Monkey, which starred Stephen Collins as a dashing air cargo pilot in the South Pacific. Danger Island takes a lot of visual cues from this series, including Archer's jacket and cap, and the design of his plane (a red and white Grumman G-21 goose).

Pam refers to the situation regarding 'Loose Goose' on the beach as a 'catch-22', a reference to the 1961 novel by Joseph Heller.

I have always been a major fan of Archer, H Jon Benjamin, and Adam Reed (as well as the ENTIRE cast). I started to feel like the show lost a bit of direction after Archer Vice, which was understandable given a variety of reasons, but the jokes and brilliantly worked in allusions still easily held it above everything else on television. However, in season 7, it sort of felt like they'd lost "that thing," I.e. the show's natural charisma, and jokes started feeling a bit forced. But, by season 8 (Dreamland) they were back. I loved their decision to use the last three seasons to really get creative and Danger Island has just been absurdly hilarious and supremely witty. This is one of those shows I wish would live forever, but that's never the case unless you're The Simpsons. Those inexplicably unhappy about Danger Island, put bluntly, must just hate change, which is unfortunate because they're denying themselves the enjoyment of possibly the 2nd to last season...which again is absolutely solid. Don't hurt yourselves, babies. Open your hearts and let the booze and breadfruit soothe you.
