South Australian film director Scott Hicks and producer Kerry Heysen put their private collection of memorabilia from the film 'Shine' (1996) on public display for the first time to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Australian release of the multi-award winning film.

The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), a key supporter and investor in 'Shine' (2016), put the limited collection on display at the SAFC's Adelaide Studios in Glenside, South Australia from 22nd August 2016.

Among the collection of memorabilia from 'Shine' is a series of production photographs, original scripts, posters, newspaper clippings, continuity photos, props, and other key items associated with the production and release of the film.

'Shine' (1996) was released in Australia in August 1996, and went on to become one of the most successful films in the history of Australian cinema.

A display board at the exhibition read: "Shine is the most successful South Australian film ever made...".

Director Scott Hicks said this collection gives a stirring glimpse into the thrilling ride we experienced with 'Shine' (1996), which propelled us to the pinnacle of the entertainment industry. He said: "It was a life-changing experience for all of us involved, none more so than for David Helfgott as Shine's success gave him back his lost career".

The 'Shine' (1996) 20th Anniversary Private Memorabilia Collection was hosted in the foyer of the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) at Adelaide Studios Foyer and was freely open to the public 10am - 4pm on weekdays from 22nd August 2016.

Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), Annabelle Sheehan, said the 'Shine' (1996) collection honours a magnificent film which made an enormous contribution to Australia's screen culture. She said: "Shine burst onto the world scene and confirmed for a massive global audience the strength and creativity of the South Australian screen industry. The extraordinary work of Scott Hicks and his team will always occupy a special place in our history and in the minds of South Australians. 'Shine' (1996) inspired a new generation of Australian filmmakers and actors by telling a unique, Australian story full of the passion and obsession that art requires. The anniversary and public access to the private collection will introduce the film to the next generation of filmmakers and South Australians. The film maintains its relevance and impact to this day".

'Shine' (1996) received seven Academy Award nominations (winning Best Actor), five Golden Globe nominations (winning Best Actor), nine BAFTA nominations (winning Best Actor and Best Sound), and twelve Australian Film Institute Award nominations (winning in nine categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay).
