Some of the outdoor scenes were filmed in minus 20 degrees Celsius in downtown Toronto.
Near the end of the movie, when Mark runs down the sidewalk in sub-zero weather, he passes from behind, what looks like a beggar, but the man is actually the key person who earlier changed the course of his and Charlotte's life. With a leopard blanket over him and kicked back on a 60's lawn chair while getting some winter sun, the odd-looking manager wearing cobra-skin disco platforms, removes one, and holds it in the path of Mark. This panhandling act was ad-libbed at the time of filming by the actor portraying the manager. It was so successfully received, that it was left in. The actor playing Mark completely plays into it, fishes for change while running, tosses it into the shoe without missing, and darts by with no time to loose - the change is jingled in the shoe, and put back on the foot.
