Super little film, as fresh and charming as when it was made. Anyone who has ever worked in an office in France knows all too well the terrors associated with spelling-mistakes. He has not misspelt référence, he has misspelt "personnel" (a classic error - with only one "n"). He only gets doubts about "référence", which is in fact originally correctly spelt, when he has corrected the other (having consulted a smart new Larousse in a bookshop). Lovely moment when he searches the whole office to find a battered old Larousse - only to find that the page in question is missing. Small film but...perfect.

French 2 Reeler has the curiosity value of being early Feyder (with his wife Francoise Rosay as an extra in the scene shot in the horse tram).

The nervous job applicant is told the position requires expert penmanship and realizes he has mis-spelled "référence" so he hides in the cupboard till after closing time to correct his application. At the same time a burglar checks out the place and breaks in. Our hero is (understandably) arrested by cops, including a young Fernand Ledoux with his bushy black mustache.

Glimpses of 1918 street life. Some attempts to visualize thought- the lead writing different spellings and similar words - iris in on calligraphy. Unremarkable.
