How well do we remember the war? Is it hard for us talk about it? Do we start remembering suddenly when talking about it?

How well do we remember the war? Is it hard for us talk about it? Do we start remembering suddenly when talking about it? Interrogation investigates the trauma, but not aiming at human pain. On the contrary, this film attempts to open the abysses of the war denial, which have become a dominant, but silent dimension of everyday life in the post-war Bosnia And Herzegovina.

What happens to people years after they suffered horrific acts and witnessed devastating events that ruined their lives? This movie looks at Bosnians after the 1992-95 war, trying to get around to very uncomfortable feelings that have been marginalized or repress many years after the war, but are still present everywhere in society... This is very difficult to do, but the film is a brave attempt to do that, by talking to people, which gives the war and the horror a kind of immediacy and shocking humanity -- and just for that it deserves to be seen.

However, it is also fair to say that viewers who are total "outsiders" will probably miss a lot or misunderstand the point of the film... If you don't have a general sense of what happened in Bosnia 19992-1995 (like a previous reviewer of this film), you will probably come away confused, shocked, and wary of the raw emotions of this film. Obviously, it is NOT a documentary about the Yugoslav wars, or about different sides or armies, but it is about how people, specifically individuals in Sarajevo and in other parts of Bosnia, felt like when the war ended, but the wars memories and impact lived on. And it deals wih that very well, should be seen.

I saw this film on IDFA. It was programmed together with a Serbian movie.('Journey of the Red Fridge' which i recommend very much) The director(s) of Interrogation were supposed to come, but didn't show up at the premiere.. the organization announced this at the beginning of the film. I wondered why.... But i knew after the film had ended.

Everything in this film seems to have some sort of anti-Serbian goal. The Bosnian people who have been asked question are in my eyes pushed to say bad things about the Serbians. The goal of the film is nice: to talk about memories and feelings which have been pushed away, but i didn't like how they worked this into a film. I am not a supporter of either Bosnians or Serbians, because bad things have happened at both sides. Instead, i am a strong supporter of peace. That's why i really would have liked to see a different setup of this film. For example: question both Bosnians and Serbians.... in the end put them all together in one room and then let them both talk about the difficulties..... it will result into some heated discussions, but that is what we need to see.

Other than that the camera work was also pretty bad. It didn't match with the overall feeling and story of the movie. And it switched between static camera angles and shaking camera angles too much.

5/10 Better luck next time...
