Milton Hebald, an accomplished sculptor in the latter years of his life, reflects on the connections between art and immortality as he creates one of his final works: a self-portrait. But this is no ordinary self-portrait: in the spirit of his belief that the artist can live on his work, Hebald makes plans to have his remains literally incorporated into the sculpture after his death.
