Most of the first four minutes of the episode are spliced from earlier episodes. The mission briefing scene is taken from "Wheels"--down to the error of Dan missing the furnace when he disposes of the recording. The team selection scene, however, is taken from "Old Man Out." This was frequently done in the first season to accommodate Steven Hill, who was reluctant to work on the Sabbath.

A reworked version of the "Family Affair" apartment set is used in this episode. The mostly unaltered set was also used in the previous episode "The Short Tail Spy"

"The Legacy" is an interesting edition of "Mission: Impossible" because it was one of the first episodes of the series AND one of the last. This is because when the "Mission: Impossible" series was rebooted in 1988, one of the episodes was a remake--and, incidentally, was also called "The Legacy".

In the first season, quite a few "Mission: Impossible" shows did not star the entire cast. In this case, Cinnamon (Barbara Bain) was not in the show. Rollin poses as a neo-Nazi in order to penetrate a movement wanting to create a Fourth Reich. Why? So that the team can learn about a HUGE supply of gold hidden by the Nazis. They've got to get it before these nuts in order to prevent a reign of terror.

This show is a bit unusual because it ends with a prolonged gun battle. Additionally, Briggs is very seriously wounded! Neither tended to happen on the show--although you'd THINK this would happen much more often. Although the episode itself is incredibly far-fetched, it is quite entertaining and well worth your time.

SPOILER ALERT

After the previous episodes had only a few of the IMF team actively participating in the mission, in this episode all of them are included. The mission involves finding the location of a hidden Nazi fortune that could only be located by getting access to a Swiss bank account whose account number was broken down and distributed to four descendants of the Nazi party. The IMF team intercepts one of the four members and replaces him with Rollin. The IMF team needed to get the account number portion of the intercepted member by drugging the Swiss bank account officer so the account contents could be revealed. The bank account contents only yielded an envelope with some old worthless money, but a microfilm was found which provided a partial map diagram. The three young German members each had a special film to superimpose on the map diagram to complete the map layout and Rollin did not have the intercepted member's film portion, so he had to stall in order to try to decipher the map information before the others. Eventually, the map information leads the team to a cemetery with a marker labeled "Braun" which obviously has strong Nazi connotations. The team goes into the crypt and then proceeds to open two graves without finding anything valuable. The viewer doesn't get to see what is inside the graves, but the reaction of the IMF team as they open the caskets tells you enough. There is a shootout as the other members also figure out the map diagram and the Nazi fortune is revealed and one of the IMF team gets wounded. A very good plot and gripping episode made just over 20 years after the fall of Nazi Germany.

Well, the Dan Briggs and the IMF have an interesting mission in this episode wherein they try to recover the Adolph Hitler's stolen treasure from his four sons.Too bad that the IMF only knows the identity of only one of Hitler's son.

The IMF places Rollin Hand on an important role by having a new identity among of a person that is part of the Neo-Nazi group. But they all face too many obstacles that keeping Rollin alive would take a lot of work. What's also an added obstacle is that they have no idea of the Swiss account that contains a vital clue to locating the treasure.

The Neo-Nazis have become familiar enemies of the IMF after this fantastic and entertaining episode.Rollin being a part of the Neo Nazi group was definitely interesting part of the plot and the numerous obstacles that the IMF faced into completing their mission.
