Alice has a gift, she can decrypt complex algorithms at a glance. As Alice becomes more aware of her abilities, her father and teacher begin to show more interest in her, whist her mother moves further and further away. Trapped between an abusive family and the manipulative approaches by her teacher, Alice delves deep with her own passion of cryptography and studies the secrets that lay dormant deep inside, in a last attempt to save her own troubled life and shield her siblings from living the same horrific experiences.

Whilst watching "The Puzzle Within" I realized that what I was witnessing was a drama piece that made commentary on our contemporary approach to abuse, in all its forms and that it did this, in a short-film template. This would ordinarily be frowned upon, since, how could you deal with these issues in 20 or so minutes. Instead, I was confronted, challenged, intrigued and entertained. I found this film to be on the cutting edge, The approach is extremely honest and "in your face". The drawing of the characterisation with the cast members also presented the facts of two dominant males figures, a past and a future of choices in the life of the protagonist (Alice) was seeking to obtain, and in the process of finding a path that would lead to freedom.
