James "Grizzly" Adams(Dan Haggerty) must help his young friend Robbie Cartman(John Bishop) who is reluctant to let loose his pet dear Ginger after his father feels it is old enough to decide for itself if it wants to be free or not, a belief that Adams shares. Still, after Ginger is released, Adams keeps an eye on him, and becomes concerned when its tracks separate from the dear herd and are followed by the tracks of a wolf. If Ginger is found, will it stay with the herd, or want to stay with Robbie the way Ben stays with Adams? Heartfelt episode tells an important message about individual choice, whether it be from a human or animal, and the importance found in that choice.
