This is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. The actors are SO bad. The plot is rubbish and the script is so awful and predictable. I caught myself laughing several times during the movie, and i'm pretty sure, that that wasn't the intension from the people who made this so called thriller. It's not thrilling at all. It's very, very slow and boring. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Save yourself from 2 hours in hell with this boring and very bad movie.

It's beyond me, how so many people have rated this movie so high. It must clearly be the director and the actors themselves who rated this piece of crap 9 or 10 stars. Terrible, terrible, terrible movie...

I have never written a review but felt compelled to join IMDb after wasting two hours on this piece of rubbish. Firstly I have to comment on the DVD cover... A decomposing woman (like that of the girl on The Ring) with her hands on a young girl. There was no horror like this at all throughout the movie. Very misleading. Then the reviews. Lots of 10's (which is up there with the likes of Shawshank Redemption). What!?? All I can think of is that friends and relatives of the film maker and cast have pooled together to give a fake review.

The acting was awful, the script was terrible. The plot crap. There was nothing redeeming about this time waster. By the end of the movie my wife and I were laughing at how bad this was... Watch at your own peril.

This move was just so awkward to watch. The actors were terrible, you really noticed the actors read a script and the emotions were not realistic.

The movie itself didn't really make much sense, you felt no connection to the characters and in the end you're sitting there thinking: "Okaaay, was this really a horror? Felt more like a bad comedy"

I don't believe at all that most people that have given this movie good scores are for real. If you look at the most people that scored this high, you will see most of them are members since the same month they reviewed this movie and many of them have only given 1 movie reviews and scored 1 movie - guess what? Yeah exactly, this crappy movie.

Don't waste your time on this "movie", I'm serious! You're gonna regret you gave this movie 2 hours of your life, when you could have watch paint dry instead - a lot more fun!

I feel duty bound to add my review to those of others who have reviewed this film. For the life of me I cannot understand why those others have given this film such high ratings. My hope is that someone else will read this review and save themselves nearly two wasted hours of their lives watching this movie. I just watched it, and felt by the first five minutes that it was going to be a bomb, so I came here to read reviews while the movie was paused to see what they said. How in the world did this movie get such a high rating? It is dull, boring, predictable with a bunch of (sorry) washed up older actors and a musical score that sounds like, well, it's terrible. The movie just drags on and on and on and on. It is very slow paced. In addition to that, there are gaps in the movie plot that make no sense at all, for instance, 3/4 of the way through the movie they are having a funeral for the town's mayor. They didn't say how she died, or why, her death was entirely unrelated to the plodding story, and she didn't have any kind of role in the movie while she was alive - none at all! The ending was uninspired, the characters were uninteresting, the whole thing was just horrible; it didn't even have the campy spirit of movies like "Plan Nine From Outer Space". Do not waste your time with this bomb.

This film is so bad that about 20 minutes into it I wanted to scratch my own eyeballs out. Utter utter drivel. I can't possibly convey enough just how bad this film is, it's almost like the actors improvised the whole thing. Well I say actors, I use that term very loosely. I actually can't believe the makers of this film persevered till its completion, they must have known what complete & utter shite they were about to serve up unto the poor unsuspecting public.

I can't understand why no one had the sense of compassion to tell the director to cut their losses and abandon this wretched wreck of a... I don't know what. It's so awful you will cry yourself to sleep at night wondering why you just didn't press that stop button and save yourself from having this fowl stench of a movie burned into your mind forever more.

Save yourself the tears, avoid this film at all costs!

if I was being chased by a thug.

The quality of the film/cinematography was subpar. The acting was very good. No complaints there.

It's just that it's disjointed and although it has a twist at the end, it didn't make clear sense. A lot of it didn't. I watch mind bending films all the time and I would not put this in that category.

It was mainly a mind bender wannabe. For instance when you take the twist with The Sixth Sense, it all made sense at the end. Usually in films like this the fun part are the little clues and hints dropped along the way. This had none.

It built this story and then 3/4's of the way through decided to change everything and give a "twist".

It's worth a watch, but I have no idea why the reviews are as high as they are. I enjoyed it somewhat.

Then the weird thing is that I look this up on the IMDb boards to try to find some explanations and there is nothing but rave reviews. That's Twilight Zone-ish in itself. No questions. No counter opinions. No "what happened to the uncle?" "How much of this was in her head?" "Why did the one guy keep lying unnecessarily?"

The thug guy was he supposed to be like a mob person. He wasn't real bright and overly paranoid. It's the writing.

Watch the movie. It's a fairly good rental or TV movie. Not a complete waste. I seen it on Hulu and for a Hulu freebie, it's good. I've seen worse.

This movie is by far one of the worst I have ever seen. It is so slow paced. I found myself reading reviews during the movie bc I was determined to finish it. I can say the only mildly interesting part is the plot twist. But it could have been done so much better. Most of the movie is just boring. The main character holds little interest. The movie itself seemed disjointed. Definitely not a horror movie. Nothing scary here. Maybe a thriller. Lifetime movies are like Oscar worthy in comparison to this. And it's long! For this bad, it should have been way shorter. I would recommend skipping this one. Even if it's free. Watch anything else.

This movie is comically bad. Terrible script, awful acting and annoying score. Some day it will be a drinking game of movie clichés.

I wondered who would actually put up the money for this rubbish and hire these actors. Then I did a little online research and everything made sense. The "director" and "writer" is the lead actress Julianne Michelle's mom. Neither has the qualifications for it. This mother-daughter duo is relentless in promoting themselves by over stating their qualifications, giving super pretentious interviews (Julianne claims she did Wall Street as a "favor" to Oliver Stone), and slapping on award claims from some 3rd rate film festival.

Just take a look at those 10/10 ratings. 100% must be from family and friends who are nodding along as if they received a really crap piece of drawing from a child but still has to smile and say good job.

I'm sorry, I usually don't write bad reviews on movies, but this was a mess. For starters the characters and main character Samantha, lacks complexity and character development. There is barely any emotion in the main actress... until towards the end - which was slightly better but still not the best it could be. I say that there was no character development as this protagonist was on a quest to find out 'who murdered her mother.' There is no depth to her quest, not a strong connection to her mother and the flashbacks were absolutely terrible.

I actually thought the scripts were written by an 8th grader. The characters reasons for doing things made no sense at all, you could even tell they didn't believe what they were saying, which made the acting average, or even less than average. A lot of the characters were introduced too soon, and they were completely irrelevant to the story line, or had little to no importance which was extremely boring.

Not to mention, the cover was of a demon and a little girl, COMPLETELY a deception, I was waiting for a demon to pop out at any time so I could stop being so bored.

The music, a lot of the time was in the wrong place at the wrong time, for example when the father and daughter began to in a strange way, feel things again for each other? I don't even know it made no sense. Epic music was played, that could be in a game of thrones battle scene win, whilst the camera shot of the two on the dining table was terrible. Wrong angle, wrong timing. Not to mention, not enough close ups to capture the right emotion at the right time. Too many flickers back and forth, wrong angles, etc.

The ending was the worst of all. Suddenly finds out its all in her head, its like an absolute nightmare. There were no foreshadows of this, it was completely random!! Not to mention whenever her mother popped up, it was not scary, cheap looking and again wrong timing.

This movie was terrible, I'm so upset I wasted my money on it. Could've been written, directed and produced by an 8th grader.

I'll start off by saying this movie had a lot of things that made me wonder if there'd be a prequel. Without spoiling anything, I feel that certain characters of this movie could've been developed in a much more twisted way to have the viewers thinking more of the past. Whenever I watch a movie I'm always looking for open-ended interpretations. Awakened delivered one of the best things ever, which was some knowledge of the past. Most movies don't go too deep into the origins of its story unless there are some loose ends. I like movies that break those barriers of time and aren't as straight forward with its story. In the case of Awakened, this movie did enough storytelling of the main character's past to make things clear and enough for me to like this film.

This movie really is not bad, yeah this is my first review but on the contrary to more recent reviews, I enjoyed it. The actors did a good job and the story progressed as it should have, so I don't see a problem here. It made me think about what was really going on toward the end and I do enjoy plot twists in movies. To the actors and everyone who worked on this movie, I say keep on keeping on and expose more people to this movie. Honestly I would recommend Awakened to friends and family because I like to see things gain popularity and traction especially if some people feel differently. Like I said, great movie and would recommend to others.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was so angry that I wasted my time watching a movie as I was with this one. The story concerns a young women who returns home for the first time since she was a child and her mom died, convinced that her violent drunk of a dad killed her mom and determined to somehow prove it.

Lead actress Julianne Michelle seems to basically have two expressions--smiling and not smiling--she doesn't even come close to having the talent required to be a lead in something like this, not that it ultimately matters since the filmmakers completely sabotage their film with one of the most thoroughly destructive surprise endings I have seen since Alexandre Aja's High Tension. In the unlikely event that you somehow found Samantha and her quest for answers dramatically involving the ending will punish you for that mistake.

I seriously cannot emphasize this enough--do not waste your time watching this movie. Awakened is a train-wreck that seems to go on forever before completely self-destructing at the end. It's really bad but not in a way that's in any way entertaining. The songs over the end credits actually felt like salt being thrown in my eyes--so the punishment doesn't end even as the credits run. Again, just don't watch this movie. If you do prepared to be angry by the time it's over. Consider yourself warned.

This was a terrible movie. I was conned into watching some of it by reading the great reviews but when the movie just wasn't living up to what the other reviewers promised I did a little more digging and realized the glowing reviews are indeed fake, as was pointed out by another helpful person.

Some of the reviewers giving this movie a high score seem to have an obsession with the lead actress and only ever post things about her or about this movie. Other reviewers have only ever commented once and that was to give this pile of garbage a 10.

This movie seems to be from the "Lifetime" movie genre although it doesn't advertise that fact and to be honest I have seen much better "Lifetime" movies.

I gave this movie a 1 star only because there's no option for 0.

Oh and Edward Furling, well he appeared for about a minute and looked like he needed a good bath.

Compared to Cinema's past, Women definitely have a much stronger and more serious presence in movies today. But it isn't completely equal from men and women yet. That's why films like this are important. Me, as a woman, definitely felt very emotionally inspired by this picture. To, for a change, not picture the female protagonist as some helpless ditsy girl was truly refreshing. The higher message is what really attracted me to this movie. But that still does not get rid of the fact that the rest of the cast, besides Julianne Michelle's outstanding performance, were really fantastic too. Well written and thoughtful, this film I think is great to augment hope for women everywhere

If you like the concept of life after death this movie is for you. I felt compelled to watch the rest of the film after the first 20 minutes. I'm a fan of anything mystery and supernatural, This movie did a great job maintaining a dark tone and suspenseful story. I found this movie via the PlayStation network, I was thinking about whether I should buy it or not. Its a good thing I bought it since I enjoyed the film and would recommend this to anyone who wants to watch a supernatural movie. Although the movie was about 2 hours long what made it all worth watching was finding out what happened towards the twisted end.

I like this movie. It made me think too much. At first I thought "Oh I am too dumb for this" . I really enjoyed it. It is for the open minded. If you think in the box, this is not your picture. The movie made me use my mind and it was entertaining, never a dull moment. I loved the actress who played Samantha and Bauer's character was great. Yes, Julianne Michelle and Steven Bauer so good together. The entire cast was great. John Savage is terrific. Great bonding of this cast is noticeable. Fine work by all. The little Samantha is as pretty as the big Samantha and a good actress as well. The Benny character was well done, hammed up a bit, still well done. If you want to enjoy, think, learn, question your very existence and yet enjoy it all, this is the movie for you. Everyone will have an opinion I think. I know I was confused at first and then it all came together. So enjoyable. I guess no one is ever really alone.

The message, the acting and the surprise ending made this picture excellent. I cried. After watching Awakened, I felt better. If you are a believer you will enjoy this movie. If you are not a believer, you won't understand this movie. It makes us feel secure that life continues after death. The actor, Steven Bauer was good, Julianne Michelle is an excellent actor, John Savage was good. Steleo Svante was very good, Sean Stone had an amazing role. No speaking but a big role- he spoke with his eyes and gestures- he did well. Sally Kirkland is always good. She won many awards, the Oscar too i think. The little girl, Erin, is adorable. She plays young Samantha This is a good movie. If you want to feel good and secure, you will love this movie. If you are a person who thinks this life is all there is, then I don't know what you will think. I loved it.

Normally I'd avoid sharing a review of such an insipid, rather tedious offering: but in view of the wildly differing viewpoints here (all positive quite likely, as already surmised elsewhere, by those somehow connected to this production), since if, ah, tolerated with the right 'in the know' watch, this one can somehow be, ah, sorta intriguing - sort of - a (tiny) bit ... for this is story of a girl whose mother mysteriously died (no plot spoiler here=see film to know how), directed by the mother who cast (it's in the credits) her own daughter as the 'girl' seeking the truth of ...well, check the title, telling us right upfront what to expect!

Which, so besides casting and coming up with this story, that mother director also (co) wrote the screenplay, produced and .. well: suffice to say, you soon realise that this is somehow some sort of family affair - which is the film's plotline too: (although, note: first (co?) director credit given in opening sequence, goes to an Arlo Malarone ... ) Said daughter, lead role actress, also composed several of tunes hereto e.g. including both over the end credits in which the last lyrics include 'What you think is true .. isn't + how could you favour this involute crime', so in case you unsure what's it all about, surely confirms all that gone before; plus it was further - just coincidentally - also produced by director's 'spouse' too - meaning, presumably the - real - (step?) father of the said lead actress, who in the film ... ahh, I nearly give away too much. Ohh, what could it all mean? So that, when you know this, it's a rather odd storyline plot to be so presented by such mother-daughter pair.

The problem is, in travailing through this dull palette (mostly almost only sepia toned, except for when daughter first full shot of, for a splash of sumptuous - lipsticked, at least - colour), the directorial tedium (ineptness? Too harsh! But 'wake up' indeed!) seeps out with rather far too may turgid talking heads exposition longueurs (father with daughter, daughter with faux boyfriend, father figure (lecherous undertaker?! I gave up trying to link them) with local baddy ....): but if to persevere, then you can enjoy spotting the director, having cast (it's in the credits) herself as local 'rest home' institution doctor (Rockwell), in which, you can further ponder the almost unfathomableness written by the director of the oddly 'are they there or are they not' appearances of the 'lost' uncle - E. Furlong's really only scene, emoting far too over the top - and even Olli Stone's documentary maker son, Sean, as 'man with fedora hat' role. (His purpose role? Guardian angel, perhaps: although probably cameo role in thanks for the catering / home use? Both as given in the credits - again - anyway.) Also you can enjoy veteran actor Savage's Dad's attempt to give his character gravitas: have a drink every time he purses his hands to his lips (in prayer, no one will catch this one?) Plus, in the 'so, what's that got to do much with the plot'? interminable funeral parlour locations (morbid delight, Ms. Engle?), giving, ah, rise to other oddity roles like the family Johansson played by presumably the reality related 'Girards', along with - was it as their daughter? (I really gave up trying to follow) - a Rosilyn Kazanjian as one of two credited 'embalmed bodies' (yep: as noted in the credits! - another is also credited as one of many (many) production assistants, too): even as far as characters named 'Namath' and 'Cranium' (who? Latter, played by Raw Leiba = again: who?)

There's likely more: but I couldn't be bothered to watch it through again to check (e.g. what's with the 'startling' blue teddy bear poster ...?): but you might somehow tolerate it if you knew such nepotism like intricacies in advance: so as to, I could still advise, stick with 'til its denouement section as a - although admittedly rather feeble - still shock reveal finally arrives, so that even if, as one other reviewer noticed, it's not really a horror, despite the come on box that my DVD came in which shows a creepy adult menacingly behind an innocent looking child, but which is, in effect, not only a red herring, but a con to the plot presented by Ms. Engle. In short; atrocious!

N.B. To really challenge your familial appreciation, I would recommend to fun double bill it with another crass family affair effort: Caspar van Dien's 'Sleeping Beauty'!

If you are looking for a suspense filled movie with many twists and turn, amazing cast with impressive dialogue, then the movie Awakened is the one to watch! Let's talk about the cast- Wow! This movie is filled with amazing actors who give an unforgettable performance. The casting for this movie is truly perfect and the actors do not disappoint. This movie really had me and entire audience captivated and on the edge of our seats. We honestly felt as if we were part of the movie. You can't help being drawn into the movie, holding on to seat waiting to see what will happen next. Awakened is a truly must see film. This is undoubtedly the movie for you.

spoiler. I like this film. I enjoyed the acting. The lighting and DP - poor quality. Everything else was good. Acting was actually very fine. The story held my attention and interest. I had to follow it closely in order to get all clues as to what was happening. The actors did well in conveying the message. As to whether or not the spirit was guiding her, I think that is left up to interpretation. I do hope I am correct and it was the spirit, because I believe in this . I believe in loved ones helping us after they die from this world or this life. I never did see a spirit but I know others who have. The writing and the story is excellent. I had to watch the movie a second time to "GET" the music and songs.I thought that was brilliant. The poor angles and lighting I doubt was done on purpose, just an under par DP. Everything else was good. The characters were believable. The sets were amazing and "different".

I just saw this picture and I am very much impressed. There were so many twists and if you don't watch for clues you may get confused. I think non believers, people who think this life on earth is it, may not understand this film. It is well done. I have always believed in guidance and help from departed loved ones, so the amazing twist brought tears, lots of tears. If you are a believer and you have a curious mind, you should love this picture. Acting is great. Many people on here, I see, were looking for a HORROR and wanted a horror. This is no horror film. It is an intelligent movie and it leaves you thinking. I have certain questions too, as I read some others do. I think the baby's father is Jack because when Lucas and that Mafia type guy were arguing in the funeral parlor near the dead woman, Lucas tells him you're wrong about Jen. She was nothing like that. I believe they had a close relationship but not sexual. I may be wrong, but it is very possible. I think probable. That woman needed and craved someone to talk to and listen to her problems. He loved her. Anyway that's my question. My girlfriend who just lost a very close cousin felt good after seeing this movie. It is for the open minded and it is very well acted.

There are so few females in leading roles and carrying a picture. This movie has just that. And the actress carries the entire picture well. She is a beautiful girl and I read they had to make her not so pretty for the role- she did really well, the entire cast was good. The movie is meaty. It has substance and a big surprise ending. I don't want to spoil it for anyone- good picture. Once Hollywood gets it through their heads that we like strong female actresses there will be good good films with depth made like this one. A movie should not have to sensationalize with F everywhere and nudity in order to get an audience's attention. Our 8 year old watched this with us and she loved it.

Many times the reality is never what it seems. Awakened is a thriller that is full of unexplained events and suspense that is directed with amazing talent. The audience's attention is immediately captured by the intense plot. No one can trust anyone. The constant search for truth, the truth that is scary because it is sprinkled with intrigue and deceit. Awakened is a film not to be missed that leaves the viewer breathless. A film that does not get bored because it makes you look away from the big screen so as not miss any detail. Awakened is one of the best thriller movies of the last times that recommend to all lovers of the genre.

I happened to have had the pleasure to see the pre-screening of the film. Boy, what a treat that was. The film is set to be released on the 21st of this month, there's no telling what is going to happen once it hits the public. Such a well-crafter, original, and moving film this was. The directors and writer obviously had a higher message or higher meaning intended when making this film. I really couldn't get enough of this picture when I first saw it. The film's pace was so menacing, it went against all clichés and formulas that I would normally expect, the plot twist came from NOWHERE. I was on the edge of my seat, I was trembling, I couldn't help myself; I was a mess. What an experience. Worth multiple viewings, a thinking piece. Great cast as well. This is definitely make a serious impact on the genre. They don't make thrillers like this anymore.

This film has got a knockout cast and its beautifully shot. This film is directed so well, it changed what I thought I knew about the supernatural. In reality, I chose not to believe anything really, but the way this film portrays the existence of the supernatural, or the possibility of it is so real its undeniable. Julianne Michelle gives an amazing performance, thats' innocence adds to the film's overall chill. And this film sure is chilling. In modern day thrillers, its ridiculous. You know the supernatural does not exist in those films because they're portrayed using jump scares. This film builds the suspense and fear without releasing in a cheesy clichéd way. It will truly grab your attention. It is so gripping, a must-see!
