Well done ITV, and well done all involved for finally giving us a drama, that ends on a fantastic episode, it's becoming unbearable with many TV dramas, the repeated pattern of a brilliant penultimate episode, then a dud of a finale. This breaks that recent mould.

The solution went right down to the wire. Snippets began to unravel, before the shock conclusion (although I think he/she/they has become a bit of an 'I'm the bad guy' actor/actress. Needless to say the solution was well delivered.

The impact of the story on the characters involved is what impressed me the most, the stark horror facing Rob and Alice when David took the kids away was harrowing, so well played out.

Lee Ingleby, Hermione Norris, Daniel Ryan, Adrian Rawlins all did a great job. Best of all, no four week wait.

Impressive drama. 9/10

Let us look at the police here.

DI Hudson as quick as a flash managed to exonerate David and gives him a hug when her boyfriend spent years trying to convict him based on gut instincts.

DI Beech is still convinced that David is the murderer and follows him to a newsagent where he goads David. It seems no one told Beech that David had an alibi for murder. Not only that David could now sue the police force for harassment.

DI Hudson looks at alternative suspects, her gut instincts tells her it must be Tara's sister Alice or Alice's husband. As they are taken into questioning, David takes the opportunity get his kids back.

The most stupid policeman in all this is not Beech but their boss, Chief Super Hillman who must have been trained personally by Inspector Clouseau. Nevermind he is the only person in the force not to know that Beech and Hudson are an item. When he gets some photos of Hudson hugging David, he immediately replaces her. So there will now be a third investigator of the murder, presumably following their gut instinct.

Luckily for everyone, the actual murderer who seemed to had remained under the radar for the first three episodes effectively puts his hands up and says 'It's a fair cop, guv.' The motive for the murder just seemed weak which seemed to be jealousy of David so he drove 250 miles to gloat that Tara was leaving him.

Lots of people claimed they knew it would be Phil because he was just too nice. I knew it would be the actor playing Phil simply because he tried to kill David Tennant's Doctor in the episode Midnight!
