The O.C. Club Online

On the campus of Columbia University, things are not always as they seem. An organized crime syndicate operating within Columbia University masquerades as a volunteer student group on campus. Led by smooth operator Johnny Spigotti, this sadistic organization dips into everything, from drugs, to prostitution, even murder. Conrad McKellar, a troubled student, joins the Columbia newspaper much to the dismay of the beautiful, yet icy news editor and is given an assignment to cover The OC Club, the group that Johnny's club is posing as. Meanwhile, Paul Crane draws the ire of a local fraternity and seeks revenge by asking a local criminal Biscuit for 'protection'. However, Biscuit and the Club he belongs to will need something from him.

Director Teddy Canyon uses extremely bold story-telling techniques in order to weave a beautiful mosaic of interlocking character arcs together. It's almost like the 2004 Best Picture film Crash, but a lot better. Where Crash hits the audience over the head with its painfully obvious political and philosophical message, the O.C. Club is incredibly complex and subtle, such that I had to watch it multiple times just to understand what was going on. I really wish more people saw this film. This is the kind of movie that college professors should write essays about, or that young prospective directors should look to for inspiration. It has something for everyone. If you like drama that really showcases emotion and character development, you'll like this movie. If you like crime thrillers, you'll like this movie. If you like watching someone get bludgeoned to death with a hammer by a complete stranger, you'll REALLY like this movie. Canyon is perhaps THE maverick filmmaker of our generation and I look forward to Part 2.

Teddy Canyon for president.

I can honestly say I've never felt this way about a film before. Words can't describe the way my mind was captured by this marvelous piece of work... but I'll try my best. Andy Seif truly dazzles as a director. It's the mafia in a way you've never seen before. The film is innovative, calculated, and was able to pull in some of New York's finest unknowns. This Columbia student seems destined to get into the industry. The way he references cinema masterpieces like The Godfather and a hint a Tarantino pack a powerful punch of ethos, pathos, and especially logos. Seif. Definitely going to be a name in the near future. Can't wait for the second episode! And how about Matt Raimo? Yowza!
