The bar keeper in the saloon is named Elkins. In season one, Daniel Elkins possesses the colt. It's likely that The bar keep is an ancestor of Daniel Elkins, and the colt remained in the Elkins family until the vampires took it from Daniel.

The gold Sam and Dean take to Wyoming is the gold they took from the dragons in _"Supernatural (2005): [(#6.12 Like a Virgin)]"_.

Bobby (Jim Beaver) mentions that the only Star Trek incarnation he is familiar with is Deep Space Nine. Beaver's late wife, Cecily Adams, played the recurring character Ishka on Звездный путь: Дальний космос 9 (1993). Additionally, Beaver played Adm. Leonard in the first episode of Звездный путь: Энтерпрайз (2001).

Dean goes by Clint Eastwood, like Marty did in Back to the Future 3. Even wearing a serape.

Bobby says they can't leave the boys in Deadwood. Jim Beaver played Ellsworth on the show Дедвуд (2004).

The opening title sequence shows a map being burned through its center to reveal the Supernatural logo, just like the opening title sequence of the long-running TV western, "Bonanza" (1959-1973).

The logo on the postal delivery guy's jacket at the end of the episode is the logo for "Winchester Repeating Arms".

Both Jared Padalecki and the real Samuel Colt were both born on July 19. Jared was born in 1982 and Samuel was born in 1814.

When Bobby asks Sam and Dean, "Either of you jokers ever heard anything about a Phoenix?" Dean replies, "River, Joaquin or the giant flaming bird?" He is referring to the late actor River Phoenix and his brother, Joaquin Phoenix, who is also an actor.

In the episode The French Mistake at Sam's house there is a portrait of Sam riding a horse cowboy style, which he does in this episode.

When knocking on a door Sherriff Dean says "Candy gram for Mongo" to get a guy to open the door. This is a direct reference to a scene in "Blazing Saddles" when the sheriff is trying to trick a person.

The title and the line "Good you got less than an hour before you have to pick the kids up from Frontierland" are based on the Disneyland and Disney World American Old West themed areas.

The character Elias Finch has the power to burn, and the actor who plays him, Matthew John Armstrong, had fire/nuclear powers in the show 'Heroes'

While filming the QuickDraw showdown, Jensen Ackles had to 'fan' his gun (meaning draw the gun from the holster at his hip and quickly fan his other hand across the top of the gun to pull the hammer back). On the first take he cut his hand really badly on the pistol, which is a heavy metal prop and not a functional gun. He had to film the scene a few times and each time ended up cutting his hand even deeper. He now jokes that he has a "nice little scar" to show for it.

Along with several other allusions, the delivery man's role and lines parallel those of the delivery man (Joe Flaherty) in the Back to the Future sequels.

After Dean kills the Phoenix, he says, "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf." He is quoting John McClane in Die Hard (1988).

The arrival of a package from Samuel Colt to Sam Winchester mirrors Back to the Future 3 when Doc Brown send a message to Marty from 1885 via courier.

The arrival of a package from history by courier in the manner portrayed in this episode is similar to that in the Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman book, Good Omens

Body count: 7 (Elias Finch [Phoenix], Judge Mortimer, Sheriff, 2 Demons, Deputy, and Rachel)

Supernatural decides to take us on a crazy ride back to the wild west where Sam and Dean have to go to the year 1861 to get phoenix ash that can kill the Mother of All.

The episode was hilarious and the directing and writing were great. Jensen as always was great portraying Dean's childish giddiness and excitement as he goes on his fantasy tour back in time and his disappointment when everything turned out not being as cool as the movies. It's always good to see Dean having fun again doing a job.

Sam too had the chance to meet his hunter idol Samuel Colt and lecture him about life as a hunter, showing a great level of maturity. There couldn't have been anyone better for the role of Samuel Colt more than Sam Hennings. I also appreciated the care for details as Dean dropped the colt and didn't take it with him because otherwise he would have changed the whole course of events.

We got the chance to know a little bit more about the war in Heaven and the power of the souls. I loved that Bobby didn't think twice when he jeopardized his own life to bring the boys back to the present time. And I liked that Cas chose Bobby's house as refuge when he needed a safe place to hide.

Finally, I felt so sad about the Phoenix but I guess he had to die anyway to use his ashes to kill the Mother.

I really liked the "Frontierland" episode! The title sounds like the game from Facebook (frontierville). What does a series producer do after the six seasons and is running out of ideas? Reinvent themselves! Sam and Dean can only go to so many towns and hunt ghosts and monsters. However, I would love to see the two characters battle a swap monster, but that is besides the point! Sam and Dean find the Campbell's family library. In order to kill a present beast, the boys have to time travel to the past in order to get some materials. The episode pays homage to Back to the Future 3 by using many of the movie's ideas including the movies ending. Dean's character is quite humorous with a few jokes about clothing and what the old west was really like. Watch out for horse poop! I give "Frontierland 10 out of 10!

"Frontierland" is another witty episode of "Supernatural", this time with a joke with Clint Eastwood and a conclusion à la "Back to the Future 3". My vote is eight.
