Geraldine is at a loss for an interesting front page story for the parish newsletter. Alice and Hugo are a couple but Alice complains that Hugo has yet to kiss her so Geraldine urges her to take the initiative. As a result the couple are found, lying on a path having a kiss which lasts four hours. They can't stop kissing. Finally Hugo stands up to his hectoring father and announces that he and Alice are engaged to be married, giving the vicar her front page story. She herself, though, manages to talk her way out of Owen's proposal to her.

There is scene where Hugo finally stands up to his father David. This was filmed before a live studio audience and when Hugo actually stands up to his father the audience erupted into applause thus ruining the take.

Although not an obvious Christmas themed episode, this has the eating Christmas Decorations end scene joke - seemingly bolted on when they realised it was going out over Christmas.

The romantic themes of this episode also make it a perfect choice for viewing on St Valentine's Day.

Although the series hadn't had many episodes at this point in the overall run, it had become a much loved, and popular, series since 1994. This is why the studio audience would have reacted with applause during the unused take of the Hugo standing up to David scene.

Revelations about Owen's family explain why he might be a more fragile character than the audience have been lead to believe.
