Natasha Pavlova escapes from The Druvanian National Ballet by hiding in the Monkees' instrument trunk and falls in love with Peter, whom she refers to as 'The Face' (and sometimes just plain 'Petrov'). Ballet Master Nicolai and his other star, Ivan, insist on getting her back, mainly because of the microfilm hidden in one of her red shoes.
Episode cast overview:
Davy Jones Davy Jones - Davy (as David Jones)
Micky Dolenz Micky Dolenz - Micky
Michael Nesmith Michael Nesmith - Mike

Vincent Beck Vincent Beck - Ivan
Ondine Vaughn Ondine Vaughn - Natasha
Robert Cornthwaite Robert Cornthwaite - Nyetovitch
Gene Otis Shane Gene Otis Shane - Dancer

This was the last show to feature The Monkees wearing their 8-button shirts.

A full part with scripted lines for 'Mike Nesmith' was written in the original storyline; however, for reasons unknown, Mike did not appear in this episode, except for the musical number at the end.

Treva Silverman didn't like how script editors Dee Caruso and Gerald Gardner rewrote her script, so she chose to be credited under an androgynous pseudonym: Lee Sanford.

Broadcast no. 41 (Nov 6 1967), "Card Carrying Red Shoes" is a weak latter entry missing the presence of Michael Nesmith. Another spy story, somewhat redeemed by Micky's rendition of 'Chicken Lake' (as opposed to 'Swan Lake'), about microfilm hidden in a pair of red shoes worn by a ballerina (Ondine Vaughn) who falls for Peter's face (take that Davy!). Familiar faces include Robert Cornthwaite, Leon Askin (HOGAN'S HEROES), and Vincent Beck, making his third and final appearance ("Royal Flush," "Son of a Gypsy"). The lone featured song is "She Hangs Out," a Jeff Barry composition/production originally recorded Jan 21 1967 for Canadian release as the B-side of "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You." This June 21 remake produced by Chip Douglas is far stronger, a gritty vocal from Davy, featuring Nesmith on electric guitar, and Tork on organ. "Card Carrying Red Shoes" was filmed Sept 27-29, 46th in production. Next- "The Wild Monkees."
