Filming took place on Disney's Golden Oak Ranch.
This is director Mark Waters' second Walt Disney Pictures film after Freaky Friday - Ein voll verrückter Freitag (2003).
There was a month of pre-production, in which the magic tricks were taught to the actors. This was to ensure that by the time filming came along, the actors were confident and able to do their tricks correctly.
Isabella Crovetti and Adam DeVine later worked together on another Disney project: Vampirina (2017).
The second time that Adam DeVine has played a character called Andy, after Modern Family (2009). Coincidently, both are owned by Disney.
Real-life magicians were employed to teach the actors and to maintain authenticity. Among them is acclaimed magician Justin Willman, who had worked with Gillian Jacobs on Love (2016).
Adam Devine has previously guest-stared on Jeffrey Tambor's show Arrested Development (2003)
First live-action Disney movie for Gillian Jacobs, Adam Devine and Jeffrey Tambor. Jeffrey and Adam, however, have both voiced characters for Disney in movies and TV.
