In the conclusion of the two-parter, Rob and Laura must each try to explain their sudden departure from New Rochelle. They are trying to cover up that they must re-solemnize their wedding vows in a distant town to undo the damage caused by Laura lying about her age on their original marriage-license application. But the strain of having to keep the secret almost stops them from going through with the ceremony "for real."

Buddy suggests a comedy bit in which Alan Brady would play a Cockney chimney sweep who is so fat he can't get down a chimney anymore. Dick van Dyke portrayed a Cockney chimney sweep in Disney's Mary Poppins, released in 1964.
Buddy's reference to the chimney sweep would have been an in joke as Mary Poppins was filmed between May and September 1963. The audience would not have picked it up as mp was not premiered until August 1964
