In the "Geordie Racer" series, real-life husband and wife Kevin Whately and Madelaine Newton play a married couple, namely Spuggy's parents. This casting decision was entirely unintentional; Newton was originally cast at an audition session, and the following day the production team independently contacted Whately, who had previous experience in schools television, unaware of the relationship between the two.
