The recently widowed Jo March Behr continues to run the school she and her late husband founded, a school for boys called "Plumfield". Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic book, "Little Men".

Ben Cook who played Dan in Little Men (1998) has a guest role in "Father Figure".
Jo has two sons in the book, Robin "Rob" Bhaer and Theodore "Teddy" Bhaer. They attended Plumfield, the school their parents founded and also lived there. Their father was Professor Friedrich "Fritz" Bhaer.
"Little Men" (1871) author Louisa May Alcott based the character of Josephine "Jo" March Bhaer largely on herself, although Alcott herself never married. Her three sisters were also part of her books as Jo's sisters, known as Meg, Amy and Beth, first seen in "Little Women" (1869) Two of those sisters are seen occasionally in this series.
