This movie is absolutely not for a wide audience but if you fit the niche they are targeting like I do you will absolutely love it !! It's super weird, has an assortment of one of the best characters ever, has great music and it has Aubrey Plaza what more can one wish for ! I will watch this one quite a few times in my future I am sure of it :)

Wall to wall misfits. Most of the characters are down right creepy. If you like your movies bonkers, you'll love this. A work of madness. I love it, a ,future cult film if I'm not mistaken. If you liked Napoleon Dynamite or Vic Reeves in House of fools, you'll love this. Matt Berry, we love you. Or it just might be that my brother and I are nuts. tIn words of Beverley Luff Linn- mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Not a lot to say really... Probably one the strangest films I've ever seen but that's by no means a bad thing! A great cast, locations and music. Little lacking in the story department but don't let that put you off - just give it a watch for Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry!

It has a very Napoleon Dynamite vibe, which to me is amazing. I can see it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes but 5 minutes in and I was already laughing out loud. Strange and hilarious!

I really enjoyed this movie but at the same time I understand most people won't. If you liked Aubrey Plaza character in parks and rec you will like this. I feel like it is based on her life after she leaves the park and rec office each day. Demented parts to this movie that make no sense and are completely random . Loved it 7.2

//Revelation Film Festival Review//

An absurdist comedy from the mind behind The Greasy Strangler, Jim Hoskings' sophomore effort is the cinematic equivalent of a joke without a punchline. It sits on the screen awkwardly and bereft of purpose, moving from one stilted scene to the next. While it would be easy to dismiss the film early on, Hosking proves himself in complete control over his style as he revels in the awkwardness to increasingly effective result.

The story follows a woman (played by Aubrey Plaza) stuck in a disagreeable marriage. After a botched murder attempt on her husband she decides to run away with a hitman to an old motel where an old flame of hers, Beverley Luff Linn, is performing for "one magical night only". So ensues a number of bizarre occurrences, many of which defy explanation, leading up to the special night.

Craig Robinson is the standout as the titular Luff Linn, a mysterious performer who communicates in a series of grunts to comical effect. The film is certainly one of the stranger films showing at the Revelation Film Festival and it won't be for everyone but attune to its wavelength and there are laughs to be found in the inanity.

This film is perfection. If you don't get it, then you clearly don't get it. You get gas, that's what you get. Mmmmmmmmmmm. Words by FR David never sounded so... slinky. Do you love this song?

I liked it very much. It made me want a Colin of my own. It's nice to go into something without knowing what you're getting yourself into and it turns out to be something like this.

Like a David Lynch version of Napoleon Dynamite. Cool score and wardrobe is interesting to say the least.

In one word , i¡d say "interesting" .. It starts in a really weird way -- a bit slow but then things starts to get crazy .. oh .. crazier .. and more tense.

The plot goes around an idiots village filled with these socially awkward people .. i actually felt uncomfortable for a while before the comedy kicks in.

The casting is WoW,, i literally knew all the leads and co-leads .. from Aubrey Plaza to Craig Robinson, Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry (from the IT crowd :D) ...

Was it a perfect easily digestible comedy ,, nope ,, it was unusual and very weird it becomes a bit enjoyable right at the end.

This movie is meant for a very niche audience. It was not created to make money or win awards. However, there is a lot of love put into this movie full of awful people mostly being awful to each other. I adored the minimalist electronic soundtrack. The over the top performances. The 70's/early 80's inspired retro decor, costumes, makeup and hair. Just everything with the style of the movie. It's almost like taking a step back in time for me.

Most people will not get this movie, but for those that do it's a real treat IMO.

If you love all these films and TV shows this film is right up your street. Your will already know this film is up your street when you see the film poster and title.

It's a bizarre film.... Enjoy the ride

I have no idea how a film with this kind of comic talent could be so painfully unfunny.

Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry's respective presences should have made this an instant classic, let alone adding Aubrey Plaza and Craig Robinson. Instead the actors seem to have been directed to give utterly wooden and wildly uneven line readings that don't even elicit a chuckle, with Craig Robinson basically copying Peter Boyle's performance from Young Frankenstein.

What a waste of a great cast via terrible direction. Avoid at all costs.

This movie has changed my life. I didn't know who I was until I saw this movie and Aubrey Plaza showed me who I truly was.

It's a weird niche of people who will enjoy this film. If you are vegan you will probably hate it.

Only watch if you dare.

So much about this production is contrived to be edgy but simply falls flat. We have actors who we know can act well but are directed not to, what looks like non-actors in speaking roles, intentionally bad haircuts, ill fitting and odd coloured clothing and a terrible musical score. We also lots of shouting for no reason as well as people acting as if they have no social awareness, its difficult to decide whether this movie is actually making fun of individuals who have social skills deficits, if that is the intention its not welcome. It also seems to be trying to make fun of bad movies and actors will less skill than the Hollywood elite who populate this movie. The problem is that none of these things are actually funny and actually gives the movie quite a mean streak. We have Aubrey Plaza at her arent-I-awkward-and-kooky worst and is s turned up to 11. This may work in small doses over time but when its on screen for the majority of the movie it becomes tiresome and frustrating to watch. Why are we watching someone who has skills dialing in a lazy performance because the director thinks its funny? While its easy enough to "get" what the humour is trying to get at its basically overplayed at a level most adults will find this juvenile, the only audience I can see who will rate this highly are university hipsters who believe they are cleverer than everyone else and wear bad clothes "ironically". You can guarantee that the fans of this movie will claim only they get the humour and everyone else is simply mistaken that this is not some kind of masterpiece. The angle of this movie seems to be lets do everything as badly as possible as that will be a great joke, but its not executed in such a way that makes good use of the talent involved or done in a way that is in anyway entertaining. The best thing about this was the trailer, don't waste your time on the full length feature.

Great cast of actor/comedians + weird looking people. The story: 2 guys (1 agressive, 1 affectionate) like a girl, but she likes a third guy, who is liked by a fourth guy. Girl tries to get 3rd guy who was her ex. He's not into her. She decides to be with the 2nd guy. End of movie.

This film is definately strange and not for all viewers, it has a bizarre amount of over acting, just a weird sense of humor. If you can get into that sort of thing then it is enjoyable to watch, Jemaine and aubrey plaza are fantastic as always. Don't expect anything normal though.

Shane Danger (Emile Hirsch) runs Bob's coffee shop and is married to Lulu (Aubrey Plaza). Through a bizarre series of events, she leaves him and winds up at a motel with Colin Keith Threadener (Jemaine Clement) a man she just met while he was robbing her husband and break-dancing friends. They sleep in separate beds. Lulu is at the motel to see the billed act, Beverly Luff Linn (Craig Robinson) a large man who speaks in grunts. They have a past.

The film is quirky. I love Aubrey Plaza, however, the feature fails to rise to the modern cult status as "Napolean Dynamite" or "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." Worth a viewing for fans of the quirky. Don't expect too much.

Guide: F-word, sex, nudity.

Wes Anderson never has contempt for the characters, subject matter or the world within which his stories are told; sadly An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn watches like it does & that is one of the reasons behind its failure.

I'm not going to be too scathing about this film because I genuinely feel for its creator. I think I can see what he was trying to do & I hope he gets another chance (If he gets another chance not out of nepotism). Nevertheless, we can't hide from the failings of this attempt.

The film has has no empathy/love for the story, world or characters which makes it somewhat soulless - I think its trying to harness a certain kind of humour but fails.

I like the actors involved but sadly Aubrey Plaza does Aubrey Plaza again. She is a beautiful & sexy woman but therein lies the issues. She is a woman now (in her thirties) & the petulant teenager vibe is becoming a bit jaded. It's actually becoming very jaded & I've seen a few of her flops now where she rolls out the same act.

I stopped watching after about 50 minutes because I couldn't take any more. I've given 3 stars for effort.

N.B. On the upside I recommend Skate Kitchen; which is the film I went to watch after failing to watch the whole of this film.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone. We're talking about certain sense of humor that isn't fit for everyone. It's uncomfortable and peculiar, but fascinating at the same time. The acting is over the top and cringeworthy, but hilarious and surprisingly emotive. I may mention that I had to watch it twice to be able to truly appreciate the message under the surface.

And finally, props to Jemaine Clement, who gave the best performance of the film. Fun, tender and quirky, a memorable character.

Watch it without prejudices, with an open mind and I'm sure you'll enjoy this rare gem.

I've wondered over the past few days whether this film is awful, or possibly my favourite film of the last 5 years. I'm leaning towards the latter.

An Evening with Beverly Luff Lunn is a strange movie with disjointed dialogue, weird acting with some strange but great cinematography that's just incredibly fun to watch. The movie has a simple plot and has many elements that are similar to a parody of a Wes Anderson movie but it's just something unique and interesting in its weirdness that doesn't try to be pretentious whilst doing so.

It's just one of those films that won't be in my top 5 of 2018 but I definitely don't regret watching. It's very stylish and weird as you would expect if you watched or even heard about The Greasy Strangler. The director has a unique vision and sense of style in the way that he makes his films that isn't remarkable but it's hard to look away from. Which, whilst disconnected and strange throughout most of the film actually has a touching ending.

Tired of waiting for the next live-action Wes Anderson or Edgar Wright film, want something that feels simple but weird and crazy at the same time then this will be for you. It's a great film to watch if you want a few laughs or just to watch something totally out there. A very good film will rewatch again, I'm going to give it a read the review/10.
