A shadow breaks free of its human companion and liberates its shadow friends. The humans, missing their shadows, grow desperate and resort to drastic measures.
The idea of shadows living their own lives was actually inspired from a scene in the silent German Expressionist film Nosferatu (1922) - the scene where the vampire walks up the stairs and you see his shadow moving up the steps, as if it has a life of its own.
When she created the 'Night of Light' animation, she wanted to try creating it like a silent genre - so she took to cell drawing. She had intended to paint each individual cell but running low on time she scanned them into the computer and painted each frame there. In the end it was the best thing she did as she got to play with the transparency effects of the shadows in the film. When the film was released to the public, a lot of people often commented that it was a 'Flash Animation', not realizing the painstaking hours that had gone into drawing each part by hand - they were often surprised by the truth when they found out as they couldn't tell.
