All exterior scenes were filmed in the Ski resort Falls Creek, Victora, Australia, where the landslide site was recreated painstakingly accurately from news footage and photos. The production chose this location as it was considered inappropriate to recreate the site in the actual town of Thredbo, NSW and that Falls Creek had similar style of locations and ski lodge architecture to double for Thredbo in the film.
