When the much anticipated Headjam arrived on our screens, I watched with much anticipation and excitement, but the final product lacked any real force or cutting edge.

Claudia Winkleman looked dated and her method acting approach failed to come off on the small screen. Laurene Laverne and Natilie Casey only made fleeting appearances, whilst performances from DJ Spoony and Edith Bowman lacked conviction and presence.

There were glimmers of hope throughout with Ed Byrne, Patrick O'Connell and and award winning Joe Cornish, but these weren't enough to save the show from its inevitable failure.

The biggest disappointment though was Vernon Kay. In his first main role since 2000's T4, much was expected of Kay but stilted conversation, wooden performances and purple shirts meant Kay couldn't match his high standards, most notably in the aforementioned hit T4 and 2003's Boys and Girls, which although was a ridiculous show concept, Kay's courage, grit and determination in flogging this particular dead horse to the bitter decommission, won the hearts of the nation. But sadly in Headjam, we did not see the same Vernon, just a shadow of his former self.

Overall a disappointing performance for Vernon Kay, who at almost 31 should be doing better than this.
