Title is derived from the Shadowhunter saying "Ave Atque Vale," for when a warrior dies.
This was Sarah Hyland's first episode as the Seelie Queen, who is also played by Lola Flanery.
The title refers to a saying that Shadowhunters speak when a fellow shadowhunter has died. In this episode it's referred to Sebastian Verlac and then Jonathan Morgenstern.
Clary and Jace have their first mutual and "real kiss" since season 1 episode 11.
